J Savers

Hi All,

Just a question, is it possible to redeem 3 X J Saver awards on SQ? I did a search on KVS and I can definitely do 2 but when I select 3 it always comes up as waitlist. Are the chances high that the waitlist will clear? Has anyone booked 3 before? I have done dates way out too say 300+ days away. This is on the SYD-SIN-SYD service.

Also SQ232 is on 773, is this the ER aircraft? Or is it the new regional J product? Likewise is SQ242 on the 772 a new regional seat as well?

Cheers,
K.

Split up into a two and a one and be prepared for the flights to be different times by a little bit.

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. Does that mean we will be on different flights?

Probably you should think that so if you end up on the same flight regard that as special treatment. In our family we don't get upset about a few hours or one day split up.

The 773 on SIN-SYD is not the ER. It's the retrofitted version with new F, new regional J, and regular Y with new seat covers. The 772 also has new regional J.

However, around 5 Sept 2011 the metal used for SQ232 will change to the A380.
The retrofitted 773 will go to SQ212.

.

Well my experience is booking out of MEL. However over the last three years of searching what is available and bookable I have found:

  • To Asia:
    • You can book upto 4 in J on SQ to Asia, or at least parts of Asia.
      • I have had 4 J Savers to/from Vietnam..and have seen it for other Asian destinations.
      • 4 J savers seems to be the initial allocation per Asian flight and so if others have booked you may only see 2.
      • I often have a party of 5, but have never had success at more than 4 on SQ Metal.
      • However I have has 5 on Thai as *A Redemption via SQ
  • To Europe:
    • Normally you can book a maximum of 2 J per flight
    • I have had "glitch" bookings where availability opened up and have booked 3 in F to Milan, and 3 in J return to MEL. I could have booked 4. However "glitches" are by their nature random and unknown when they may occur.
For 2012 July school holidays I was a bit slow of the mark in not booking at maximum time out, and so was behind the pack ata peak booking time, but I have this week just booked:

  • 3 *A J MEL -Paris on Thai.
    • There was not immediate availability, but a kind and patient agent at SQ looked at various options including Lufthansa, before checking further and finding 3 J on Thai on the one set of flights. I suspect that they opened up availability for me, and as such I was lucky. If so it has once again demonstrated the value of being "chatty" and "friendly" with the booking agent as they can sometimes o the "extra mile" .
  • Return she could find nothing. Searching all the European gateways I could find return on SQ out of Amsterdam at dates later than desired , and from Istanbul on exactly the desired dates but with a maximum of 2 J per flight. So I booked the three of us on consecutive days.

Old thread YES - new info I hope.

FWIW - keep your wits about you guys - IIANM - appears availability of SQ J Savers on 77W into / out of MEL loosening up.

I have secured J Saver MEL-SIN in both April and June 2012 - J Saver SIN- MEL in July 2012. Redemption bookings are definitely showing 77W - hopefully won't be screwed over by metal change.

Yes I have similar bookings.

However between MEL and SIN SQ I have had several J reservations per year over the last several years booked up to a year in advance and I found that have regular ad repeated metal changes.

Once with a week I had 3 different planes.

Plays havoc with ones reserved seats, as the seats numbers often do not marry up and you can therefore lose preferred seats.

I spy......

MEL-SIN 14-20/11/11 on the Whale.

Late notice but still may be useful for someone....

I had a look yesterday and could see healthy availability.

Good spotting deluxeflyer ;)

Doesn't apply to paired segments.

I could do a dummy booking and get it to work on some routes, eg BKK

I have a confirmed booking.
SQ confirmed whale appears only for that week.

I would postulate that it looks like an equipment change to pull another 773 out of the rotation for refurb/maintainence. But they haven't updated the fare tables properly, so the 388 is "priced" as a 773.

I've a dilemma. I'm trying to book 2 J Saver seats ex Sydney. SQ is waitlisted so then I checked ANA tool and it shows availability on TG to destination.
When I called SQ, they say the TG seats are not available. I informed them of ANA tool and that didn't make any difference to them.
I'm using SQ miles. What could I do to secure those TG seats using SQ miles?

What could I do to secure those TG seats using SQ miles?

Be very very friendly....

Sometimes when I have rung SQ to book TG there has been no availability, or less availability as I sometimes want upto 5 seats in J, and after chatting the operator has promised to see what she can do.

This has often resulted in gaining the desired seats. Sometimes on a day different.

ie last time I called up wanting MEL-CDG for 3 pax.

I was two months after availability opened (I had meant to check when it opened but forgot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Initially I was not sorry all was gone. I was chatty and said my wife and daughter would disappointed. Agent then looked and looked again and came up with some convoluted routings with lengthy connections using LH. I would have taken them..and expressed my gratititude in the agent having taken so much time looking. gent then said she would put on hold.....and would see what she could do , but would need to call back.

4 hours later she rang back and said that she had spoken with her supervisor and had arranged 3 in J direct to CDG via Bangkok with minimal connections. great result.
She apologised that could not get any simple return flights (is the weekend of schools returning and so no surprise).

I had spotted J returns from Istanbul on SQ and so I booked them instead. ill be good chance now to see Gallipoli.
