Sorry I should have said why, personally, I have flown TG J a lot and it's an OK product.. MH for Satay and the A330 neo and A350 if you can get that as well.. TG A350 interiors are already falling apart... I heard MH had leased some SAS or Finnair A350's and I haven't flown those so yes that's my reasoning :)

For maximising sleep I’d choose the TG option. Flight sectors are both 9 hours plus, allowing for a meal/movie, and get some solid sleep. The flight from KUL to AU, like that of singapore, is quite short.

I’d say it depends. If taking the evening departure from LHR, that makes sense. if you take the morning departure from LHR, I’d argue the opposite. The longer first sector is a good thing for a better chance of a long sleep, whilst the sector to AU is a day flight, so sleeping all the way on that sector will make it difficult to sleep after you arrive that evening. YMMV.

I'll be flying MH in J on an A330 later this week. I can report the current experience

I flew KUL—PGV on an A330-200 in J.

Although a scheduled 5h 35m flight, the service on board was regional business class.

It’s quite reduced from long haul business class service.

So it might be better to refer to Matt Graham’s review of KUL-SYD on an A330-300 in J.

Also, the aircraft used for my flight was quite old. There was no WiFi, the seats didn’t work quite so well. I had to move seats. At both seats, the entertainment screens couldn’t be controlled. One couldn’t be turned off! Not even by the crew.

My return flight is scheduled to be an A330-300, so hopefully better!

My flight was a dinner service. Oddly, as per Matt’s review, the menu doesn’t list any alcohol drinks at all. But there was a lot available, I just didn’t know what. Or what could be ordered.

Crew were great.

In KUL, as a oneworld emerald, I had lounge access to the better MH lounge that used to be for first class when MH offered F. Business class pax that don’t have status get the Business lounge, next door.
