I am finalising a DONE4 that takes in South America. I need to fly from LIM to LHR so am currently booked to fly LIM-GRU on LAN and my TA says that it is an all-economy sector. However it is an almost five hour flight so it doesn't sound right to me. And just to be clear, she isn't saying that there is no D class available - she is saying that it is a single-class sector.

The only alternative I can think of is flying LIM-EZE and departing for LHR from there (which goes through GRU anyway). At least I know there is business class on the LIM-EZE sector.

So my question is - is my TA right and, if she is, is there another way to get from LIM to LHR in J (D) class?

I don't think there is business class, via MAD or MIA might be suitable alternatives.

LAN have new style J on their B767 and A340.LAN peru used to have B727s with European style J seating but they no longer appear on their fleet. The GRU sector is an A319 so is probably all Y.
With LAN you would have to fly LIM-SCL-GRU to have J seating.

Just checking LIM-GRU for a random date on LAN website, the only nonstop appears not to have business class (well, it says "not available" so assume that means it doesn't exist, rather than sold out).
LAN PERU 765 Aircraft: Airbus 319

So your TA may well be correct!

StevePER's suggestion seems like a good 'un! (operated by IB) -via MAD is certainly the shortest (I know shortest on AFF does not necessarily equal best )

Yes well I'm not too keen on IB. I am leaning towards LIM-EZE and joining my flight to LHR at EZE instead of at GRU. I know that means a longer journey and more time in the air than on the ground, but hey I actually prefer that in many cases! :)

Any LAN flight on A320/319/318 are now all economy.

There were some being fitted to have premium economy - it's similar to VBs with fold down middle seat, but i'm not sure they've got anywhere with them - you'd be best to presume any of the above a/c dont have J.

The 767s are all being retrofitted with new (lay flat) J seats. There's a link on the lan website showng the new product. Not sure how many were done (we got one on SCL-EZE last Spetember).

The A340s are losing the F and going to J/Y only - i think 3 of the 5 are done. Having said that - try and get row 1 allocated - but the "old" F is really no better than the J anyway.
