Is there a split payment option with Qantas for expensive airfares?

If you use PayId the money transfers instantly.
You then put the charge through immediately.
Hard to see it going wrong, but feel free not to risk it by all means.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I did not want to take the risk of having my AMEX card blocked so I went for the Pay Per Person option. It cost $120 per person to use this facility but I used two separate cards. All sorted, got my tickets, my favourite seats were available so we are sweet.

I want to book an airfare which is above my AMEX card limit. The airfare departs and returns to Australia. I can see a "hold payment" on the Qantas website but I am not sure if you can split the payment into two equal payments. The airfare is approx $21,000 for the two of us. I would be fine if I could do 2 equal payments. I have contacted AMEX and they have said I cannot load my card and then pay over my limit - even if it is all there in the card. Rules and regulations apparently.
Is there a way to pay for Qantas n Airfare in two installments?
I want us both on the same booking so paying for each individually is not an option. Thanks for any help
I would buy a voucher then redeem the voucher and pay the rest on redemption.
That would also save you money.
You don’t pay credit card fees when you buy or redeem vouchers.
So you could save up to $120.

I'm pretty sure you get that money back once the payment goes through.
