Is quickest way to *A Gold with Aegean ?

I believe they are owned by Lufthansa group... They also have bought Olympic recently.

In 2005, A3 and LH formed a partnership to cover Greek airspace, prior to A3 joining *A a few years later.
Aegean and Olympic merged their assets in 2010, and listed on the local Stock Exchange.
During this decade they have achieved many awards from Skytrax and various European agency's.
So should be a safe F.F. Program, and Airline.

Cheers,
Dee.

Aegean Gold status does not earn you milage at the higher rate on other *A carriers? i.e 50% higher earn on SQ if gold.

A raft of changes to Aegean's Miles & Bonus program were announced today to "reward your trust, with even more benefits, additional services and new partnerships" and - get this - make the program "even fairer". They come into effect on 24 November 2014.

Changes include more miles required to qualify for gold, and a requirement to fly on a minimum number of A3 flights to retain status (or earn double the number of miles flying on partner airlines). I haven't read through all of the changes yet, but it seems A3 still offers a good way to get to star alliance gold. It'll just be a little harder for some. I guess it was only a matter of time...

Details can be found here: Miles+Bonus | Aegean Airlines

The biggest thing will be the new way to earn status. The bar is significantly larger than the old system.

Qualifying for Gold requires 24k tier miles with 4 x A3 flights (or Olympic Air), or 48k tier miles irrespective of carrier. It's not entirely clear from the info site on the new system whether this means 24k in any given 12 months or 24k in the 12 months after having qualified for Silver (the new tier below Gold); if it is the latter then the new qualification amount increases considerably.

If you can rush A3*G now before the new programme takes effect, that would be mostly better than trying to qualify for Gold under the new system.

Interesting the new together system which effectively allows you to pool up to 6 accounts, and it seems there are no restrictions (in as so far - no details yet) as to who can be in the six. I assume there will be some measure in place to ensure you can't just daisy chain at will.....that said, A3's redemption options are not the best anyway.

With clear indications on retention requirements now, the free ride on *G is over. It's not entirely demanding (and quite a light load across the alliance), but now you just can't do nothing and keep your status.

I wonder then the new requalify will start . will it be next year or the year after?

Gotta love the clap trap on FT where some are insinuating that their giving up on A3 is going to result in a large forfeit of business for the carrier and hitherto an effect on the Greek economy.

They should have retained the base model, and followed QF's FF program, wouldn't take long to reach the 10 mill mark in members, probably to the anguish of the rest of Star Alliance, but to A3's financial win.
Cheers,
Dee.

Really? More than likely a huge saving on lounge costs and possibly an increase in business if some people try to get the minimum A3 sectors.

I think you will find my people here who also look for info on FT from time to time but tend to post here is they want intelligent conversation, FT does get a bit feral at times.

Have a J trip to EU in the next couple of weeks (back in first week of Nov). Not really committed to any *A partner at the moment and tossing up between Miles + More, Kris, and Aegean...
Any thoughts? Where's the biggest bang for buck?

I assume that when A3 say "the flight must be operated by any Star Alliance member-airline and not by other collaborating airline company (code-share flights)" that means that Ethihad plane with an Aegean flight number doesn't earn anything, nor does it count towards qualifying sectors. That right? The other thing it could mean is that you must be on the *A airline's metal and not one of ITS codeshare partners. EG, couldn't claim an NZ flight on a VA plane. So, A3 flight number not enough, must actually be on an A3 plane?
