The Sydney Airport Demand Management Act 1997 was enacted on 17 November 1997. The Act sets a cap of 80 hourly movements which is a landing or takeoff.
How many movements could Sydney reasonably have if the cap was removed?
How many hourly movements do other airports have (MEL, DXB, LHR, LAX etc)

How long is a piece of string? It depends on mix, winds and other factors but consensus puts it at least 90 if not 100 with a 16/34 favorable wind. What happens at other airports is irrelevant given the runway setup and predominate wind.

Perhaps the an allied question is: how many conversations could people working or living under the KFS flight paths have? I would suggest not many!

Depends on how many heavy trucks are outside, as they generate more noise than a 738 on a 1 for 1 basis? Aircraft are considerably quieter now than many other noise producers in our life, yet move massive numbers of people and goods compared to their competitors!

Thanks markis10 for the information. But, the B737-800 is not the only aircraft that arrives and departs KFS. And I could add the duration of the overhead plane noise can be 2 minutes or more, which make outdoor conversations or phone calls a challenge.

Huh, two minutes or more for an aircraft doing 200-700km/h??

Also depends on wake size I believe - suspect you could have a lot more than 100 if only props or business jets but a lot less if all 777s and 380s

I've always found it prudent to not bother arguing with people that make such outlandish statements.... Clearly common sense and facts are not part of their normal thought processes.
And you are quite correct, the hourly cap is much more of a pain in the neck for us poor ATC's. There's really no need for it.

The "noise sharing" concept is also painful. I can recall recently holding for about 15 minutes for a landing on 07 (single runway for arrivals) with the wind at 160/20. Totally unnecessary!

I hear you!!! (Pun not intended) It is ridiculous.
