Is QF considering Lifetime Platinum?

Reaching LTG is really the main reason I'm swayed towards flying QF (and OW) and that's probably 1.5 years away for me. If there's no LTP, I'll definitely be jumping ship. I buy my tickets outright for overseas travel >90% of the time and long-haul (Oz-Europe or Oz-N America) is almost always in J. There is no need for "status" when I'm buying J tickets anyway. If there's no incentive to keep flying QF, I definitely won't be! I can easily get J tickets at 1/2 or 2/3 what QF want to charge for theirs!!
I'm guessing that you are currently flying for work and are looking to obtain LTG for when you no longer fly for work, otherwise one would have to ask why you want LTG if you'd prefer to fly with another airline. Assuming that's the plan, if Qantas introduced LTP, that would be an incentive for you to continue booking with them, at least until you achieved LTP.

I don't actually fly that much for work. A lot of it is pleasure that is sometimes mixed with work. And it is mostly self-funded. The OneWorld alliance members have suited my travel preferences over the past few years but with the change in earning on partner airlines (both in points and SCs), I've starting to look elsewhere as the LTG milestone approaches.

Basically it's changes that are driving you away from Qantas but you're hanging in there to get LTG as you're nearly there. That makes sense. Seemed a bit strange that you'd pay more to fly, just to obtain LTG and then go elsewhere. What's the point of status if you don't use it?

LTG will give me lounge access if I do choose to fly on OneWorld airlines and it's particularly useful when I don't mind flying in Y to South-East Asia. It also gives me options when flying domestically.

No not really in the case of BA. LTG with them AKA LT OWE is equivalent to about 23 years of OWE. 28K is about the same.
Also remember that BA doesn’t (yet) penalize TP earn rates on other OW carriers.
But their TP earn rates are far from generous.

I’ve not checked more than a handful of routes, but as an example my most frequent trips are DRW to either SYD or BNE (and VV) in the cheapest fare class. Both would earn 5TP with BA, but 20 SC with QF.

YMMV.

But flying BA F SIN-SYD gets 210TP but on QFF 90SCs.
Flying CX SYD-HKG in J gets 140TP but 60SC on QFF.With very little difference in points-5600 or Avios-5729.

It very much depends on your routes and cabin class.
For my travel patterns it would be at least as easy if not easier to retain status with the bonus that I could choose which OW carrier to use.

Some very generous numbers in this thread. It's lovely to have all this speculation but one of my earlier posts would not be far from the mark.

If Qantas introduces Lifetime Platinum it will be a stretch target. Not double Lifetime Gold but maybe quadruple Lifetime Gold or more. And only Qantas SCs not generous AA SCs on 8 sector runs to PTY and back.

They don't want to create too many Lifetime Platinum. May even involve a minimum number of years at Qantas Platinum such as 20 years. You won't be able to earn it as a 26 year old unless you started flying young. Think Hilton Lifetime Diamond.

You sound pretty sure JohnK. Do you have a source?

We’ll know soon enough if the axing of any airline lounge access for CL is meant to be a precursor for LTP or not. I doubt it, but I hope I’m wrong.

They were quite a while (and a number of execs) ago.

I will adopt a wait and see approach.
Quite a while ago but still relevant today. Did someone up thread post that current QF loyalty is not interested in considering Lifetime Platinum.

Qantas does not need Lifetime Platinum. I've not seen any arguments on this thread to the contrary and 3-4 AFF'ers chasing Lifetime Platinum is not the incentive Qantas needs.

Oh and don't hold your breath.

There have been plenty of good arguments. You must have missed them.

I think extra years of loyally flying QF only to eventually realise you won’t make LTP (unable to sustain high flying levels long enough) would be a good thing for QF
