Is Qantas too generous in its points upgrade rates (according to EK)

If one were so inclined, one might assume that a one world scheme with a standard earn, standard cost, standard burn scheme might evolve , with the partner airlines as shareholders. A bit like an airline dollar if you will.
It strikes me that points are currency on one level, but like Europe before the euro , a problem child when forex is in play. Mind you, the euro hasn't been the panacea it was proclaimed to be .
We shall have to wait and see.
Mrs GPH has all but committed all of our QF points on JASA's for the 2014/2015 year, we may now need to look elsewhere for a loyalty programme that suits. Methinks its VA

Re: Emirates may allow Qantas points for business class upgrades

I think you'll find QF actually fly to more ports than does EK!

I don't think so. Emirates claims to have 140 destinations, QF has about 70 (on their own metal, not including Jetstar destinations).

Edit: and in the context of this thread, I think there are around 40 QF ports that have business class (so could be upgraded to/from), whereas all 140 EK ports have business class.

Why would I punt on a points upgrade with QF when I'm currently on a 33% op up rate on EK?

That's not bad. What is your strategy? I'm flying 4 legs in Y on EK in a few weeks (work is paying for my flights). I am Gold with Skywards, and my wife and daughter are on the same flights in J via QF award flights.

I'm batting 67% - all on QF flight number, EK metal.

WP is my strategy ... :p

I'm 0 for 3 with EK on QF flight numbers, and oh, how I wish I wasn't... 2 out of those three were packed 10-across 773s where I was sat next to persons with significantly lower standards of personal hygiene to my own... I don't know that I'll ever take the risk again, even after all the stories of EK upgrade love for us QF WPs on here!

I see no reason why the rates for upgrades on EK services couldn't be more expensive, thus making you choose QF services if you plan to upgrade.

I'm calling BS on this article.

I think it's a ploy to make Q frequent flyers believe they're getting a good deal.

Many many airlines off the top of my head have cheaper upgrades.
QF also commands a premium for the airfare to begin with.
