Is premium economy worth it?

It seems good value - only $120 more than JQ SYD-HNL (*Class).

Good decision. Enjoy the trip and we look forward to your report back as to the 'value' of PE. :)

Yes please report back on the value equation...

I completely understand why you went for PE but i'd still be umming and ahhing about it...

HNL is just an expensive place to get to. For instance if you saw the sale prices for syd lax and syd hnl during the 90 hour sale they were basically the same price...

So I ended up booking Y+ for the both of us return. I've never flown Y+ and never been to LAX so it will be a whole new experience! We are both bronze members so the chances upgrading I know are slim. We have between us nearly 1 million QF points though so we will use them at some stage!

If you have a million FF points, why didn't you try to get 2 award seats in J class? That would be far superior to Y+. Admittedly, J award seats to LAX can be difficult to get with only six months notice ......

And of course, all of this presumes that the A380s will be back on the LAX run by May

With that many points I would have used JASA or even FASA deals and travelled in style.

I just booked rtn SYD-LAX for 2 in F for ~640000 with no cash payment. With this I earn ~30000 points and over 500 SC's. I also get to travel F which is a long held dream of mine.

Each to their own and I hope you enjoy the flights and LA, I have also never been there.

Personally think it is a good deal, along similar lines to others expressed. So much so my trip next week was booked in Y+ during the last sale. Original plan was to put in upgrade request and hope to get a "cheap" J flight... A380 issues have scuttled this plan, now looking forward to either sampling the offering OR row 23/24 ;)

Guess the point around cost and what else you could use the $ towards is relative. How much of the total spend is the airfare? Far too subjective to just say it could be better spent unless you know the individual circumstances.

I wonder if you offered a Y passenger a Y+ seat for $250 for dinner and a movie 6 hours into the flight if they would take it....

Are you saying those in economy do not travel in style? :p

Nope. Almost halfway into the flight and I am still alive. Looking forward to the holiday and thinking of ways to spend the $250....

I know you have made the decision, but I will join the "yes its worth it chorus".

Premium Economy is like the business class of old. If you can afford it, its a flight you will look forward to rather than fear.

And the pre-takeoff glass of champagne - priceless (or really bloody expensive depending on how you look at it lol!)

I know i've got plenty of FF points but i'm only young and plan on doing a lot of travelling so there will be plenty of opportunities to use those points!

I have purposely travelled on the A380 Economy 3 times and paid for exit row once. I must say the 380 is so quiet and comfy that even with the extra time taken ( and I believe that Qantas have slowed down the other aircraft so as not to compete), the journey has been very bearable. The last time in exit row was great. A set of noise cancelling headphones is a must.
