Is Platinum the Holy Grail?

i wonder if it is possible to get WP in one single RTW in discoutn economy, that wodul be a challenge.

Guaranteed impossible. Even ignoring routing restrictions, ability to get a suitable number of longer sectors etc - the maximum number of sectors is 16. On a 16 sector ticket that had no restrictions (ie you could take all 16 sectors on any route) the most SCs you could earn would be 16x60, ie 960. Throw in a whole stack of routing restrictions and you're probably capped at around 400-500 on an LONE6 that takes in Aus-Asia-Africa-Europe-Sth America-Nth America-Aus.

Maybe the question should be changed to 'I wonder if it is possible to get SG in one single RTW in discount economy, that would be a challenge :?:'

Anyone care to try and work this out :?:

Today I was talking with a CL and he said it was a battle to get business and first trip redemptions on points at short notice for longhaul on QF.
Maybe the Holy Grail is a myth......

I think serfty has already done the calculations for a fully optimised LONE4. From memory it was around ~450SCs so still not enough for Gold.

Without a lot of thought using a LONE6 I could get to 485 using ANC and the rule that allows transits through Europe to/from certain Africa ports ie PER-SYD-NRT-DEL-NRT-LHR-DAR-LHR-MOW-MAD-SCL-DFW-ANC-ORD-LAX-JFK-SYD.... I think..... but looking at SC/$, not terribly attractive (!)

I think this is waaaaay O/T now... Maybe the mods need to create a new thread??

I took my first QF as a WP on Friday. I flew Deathstar from MEL - SYD and then home on QF467 last night.

I really liked the MEL F Lounge. Cheryl provided an awesome facial and massage. The omelet was delicious as was the champagne.

I didn't notice any other higher level of service. I was in my usual seat on a 767 (1B) I was sitting next to another WP and we discussed the various benefits.

I have concluded that as I ONLY travel in the premium cabins on QF my only real bonuses are F Lounge access and extra QFF points. I had expected that to be the case but for me personally I will maintain WP from now on.

How do they class the top 1% of frequent flyers? I was under the impression that the top 1% are all WP or CL anyway. I recall a thread that suggested that there were only about 35-40 thousand WP...

It would pay to remember that there is WP, WP, and WP.

Still do! mrs serfty is a GE when travelling NZ. It's not a *A benefit.

It was really good the treatment we received when travelling as a pair of GE's LAX-xAKL-MEL on NZ1 last month. :p:cool::cool::oops::oops:

Serfty - given the choice of flying QF (WP) to LAX or NZ (GE) to LAX (all things being equal) - what would you say you receive better treatment on?

Overall, NZ is better. QF's best treatment is as good as NZ's but you don't get it as consistently.

For are start, AirnZ Trans-pacifics have an "In-Flight" concierge whose role is dedicated to the welfare of the passenger, thier enjoyment of the journey and assistance/advice regarding connections, transits, transfers etc.

Only issue from Oz is the AKL transit.

(FWIW, GE can upgrade from any revenue booked seat up to 355 days out. I can use E/F to ascertain which flights have the upgrade I am after, book one and upgrade immediately. (Similar to QF domestic).)

Cheers,

Thanks for that - food for thought for the next SYD-LAX flight.....
