Is my flight going to be cancelled?

Hi, I have a multi city trip booked with QF april, per-syd, bri-per, and it is all confirmed and looks ok in my online account, but out of interest (to check if prices had gone up) I tried to recreate the same booking today and my flight home QF941 april 8 18.45 is not listed as an option. I would have thought even if all seats were sold (unlikley I would have thought) it would still be listed just with 'no seats" in each category. I am worried this indicates flight might be altered/cancelled. Any ideas?

I had a couple of schedule changes on BNE flights come through today - they may have just suspended sales whilst they work out new timings.

They may be consolidating flights - 8/4 is a monday mid Vic/QLD/WA school holidays so there may be less demand, there may be a need to redploy the aircraft elsewhere.

If cancelled, there is a 520pm and an 830pm departure so I’d assume re-accomodation on one of those would be provided.

That is what I thought. When should I expect QF to advise me of any change?

Great question - usually via app or email but it depends on their intention and for obvious reasons work from closest to departure to later.

My schedule changes were for February and September FWIW (for two of 6 flights in those times - both of which are departure times around the time of your flight and not affecting flights earlier in the day - but these were minor changes (5 mins later and 30 min later departures) so no flight reaccomodation required.

It’s also possible they’ve pulled it to try and fill the earlier flight first and will reinstate if if there is demand - without info on the inside it’s all just guessing I suppose.

Keep an eye on MMB in the app. If you are ambivalent about which of the two alternatives, probably easy enough to just wait.

At least QF is not selling these flights prior to the potential cancellation

I have not been in this situation before, have only had scheduled flight adjusted by a few minutes. What would happen in this case, would they give me the option of which replacement flight to use, the earlier or later, or would they just pick one for me?

Yes but….!

The issue I have with this is that while a flight is ‘suspended’ or whatever else, those of us who are on the ball would like to be locking in alternatives. When airlines suspend flights so they can move people around, but don’t officially advise, it means they reseat all the platinums, often on the best alternatives, and leaves others to pick up what’s left :( The call centre sees the flight as active, so won’t help move you free of charge.

If a flight is going to be cancelled or consolidated… let us know asap so those of us who want to be proactive, can.

Yes, with two months out and a tight schedule I would really like to know what is going on. We are only able to be away for 2 nights so time is at a premium for us.

It appears as though it is still in the timetable, so that is what call centres are going to see.

They’ll pick one for you to accept online/in app, but if you aren’t happy with that chosen alternative, you’ll have to call them.

Stupid question, but will they actually send me an email or just expect me to check MMB? As I am paranoid about staying on top of travel things I do as a matter of course check it twice a week after booking, but it would be nice if I didn't have to rely on it.

Email and in MMB both occur relatively concurrently.

Sometimes I’ve seen in app, other times i’ve seen email first.

If you’re checking twice a week, that’s heaps this far out.

@KLMCM this topic of discussion comes up every year or 2. In late Mar/Apr all the airline schedules change based on the Northern Summer, same thing happens in Sep/Oct when the winter schedule comes into play. There was an article on this topic a few years back. The Northern and Winter schedule changes normally are minutes changes and will not have any impact to your flights. At present I am receiving change notifications on a daily basis for QF and other carriers, I just ignore them and when things settle down I will accept the changes I want and claim involuntary change for those I do not want.

Yep - another 20 min tweak to an April MCY flight came through overnight.

They are clearly tweaking schedules at the moment (as @Matt_01 says - likely part of bi-annual schedule changes).

My Travel Agent is going nuts over all the changes to QF flights for her clients. Says its worse than she can remember. Takes a lot of her time.

I think regular seasonal schedule changes + the adjustments to the QF fleet due to supply issues :(

Just checked my MMB (for the 3rd time today) and it has indeed put me on another flight, luckily the one I would have chosen with similar seats. Let's hope it doesn't change again!
