Is J on the Qantas 737-800 Perth-Singapore a waste of money?

Is Qantas offering PJs on the inbound, as was promised in the media release when the route was re-installed, or has this slightly slipped away as well?

Why would you want to change into PJs on a 73H?

As an aside, I saw a (probably) homeless person wearing QF J PJs (top only visible) in the PER CBD (Carillon City) the other day...

..... Business was almost indistinguishable from economy.....

When I read this I laughed :) Sure, it may not be great, but whenever I see someone say that business is almost the same as economy on a given plane, I get the same laugh.

At the end of the day this discussion is simple - if you value comfort, don't fly QF on that route. If you want to retain your status by a load of SC that your employer is paying for, then do fly QF.

What else is there to ponder??

Qantas is only interested in Eastern States. Alan Joyce should do the right thing and intervene and insist an A330 service be a permanent part of Perth- Singapore schedule. It is an absolute disgrace that loyal Qantas clients have to be subjected to the inferior offerings of a 737 when other carriers such as SQ ,are offering return business class on A330 & 777 for $2000 .

Start treating everyone equally and at least give your loyal Perth clientele an equal playing field, especially given the minimal opportunity for reward flight redemptions on virtually only one international QF flight on a 737 to Singapore as opposed to numerous eastern states flights.

The 787 service was noted as big thing for Perth only to help a one stop flight to London without going through Singapore , otherwise we would not have got it . Chances are it will always be booked out from over East anyway .

I know many loyal QF flyers are opting to fly SQ and cannot understand why QF just do not get it. International image , pull an A330 of domestic and use it on international- I am sure you can spare one.

I fly SQ a lot in business ex Perth and I see a lot of people in J with QF plat/gold bag tags (me being one).

I imagine Alan Joyce aims to use the aircraft in such a way that maximises returns to Qantas.

I'm going to go a bit against the tone and say a few positive things about QFi's 737s.

To claim that J is the same as Y seat-wise is just a nonsense. Sure it's domestic J but it's still a lot better than Y. Internationally it's comparable to PE on the A380/747. And the IFE on the newest 737s is fine.

It's pretty much the same as flying Jetconnect to NZ or QFi to Bali.

For a day time flight, the 737 can be pretty good. I've found the service to be great with a seemingly better ratio of cabin crew to J class pax. Service has been quicker and more attentive than the A330. Also, when policed a bit, the forward toilet seems to have a better ratio for the small number of J-class pax.

For an overnight flight or if you intend to sleep, it's a totally different matter!

Of course if it's only the seat that's important, don't take the 737.

Don't you know anything? Arm chair experts understand better how to utilise aircraft than the long time CEO of the company

Don't be quite so hard on chicco.
It's not like he was proposing something really off the wall like an ultra-premium intra-asian airline, or had a fleet of A320s gathering dust at Toulouse for two years.

I was in row 5 Y and never saw them being offered in J.

I’m one of the Perth residents that switched several years ago from Qf to SQ business and travel 3 to 4 times to Singapore each year. The only reason is the choice of a larger plane and the 4 flights per day into Perth.

Yes SQ has a superior offering PER-SIN.
Perhaps Alan Joyce should have a chat to the cabin crew that service these flights and then he would really know what passengers think. He won't like what he hears.

I can give you a list as long as your arm, of ex QF passengers that have decided to fly SQ to Singapore and many more on Scoot.
You would have thought the Xmas busy period would have been a perfect opportunity for QF to try to win back some loyal clients- as I said before I don't think anyone really cares about Perth , if they did they would have done something by now, given it is the only international QF metal flight.

Yes we are both WP on Qantas and nothing on SQ other than having lots of Kris Miles. We get saver Miles flights in business class at the times we want on the days we want.

As you would expect. SQ has significant onward connections for people travelling from Perth. Most SQ passengers are not going to Singapore, they are connecting to somewhere.

For Qantas, there is less scope to connect to anywhere, so they are largely servicing traffic going to Singapore/

Yes that is correct oz_mark. We just stop in Singapore to break up the long haul journey from Perth to London or Los Angeles. We just walk over to the Crowne Plaza for a night time stay.
Qantas made a decision to dump Perth other than using a cough little plane for an international run. They will need to try harder if they want that market back.
