Is it this simple?

Hello,

I am looking at getting rid of QFF and am investigating MPC/Asia Miles as an alternative. Leaving QFF because I fly almost exclusively discount economy and with the new system discount economy isn't treated particular well!

My flying is from BNE to either Europe or Canada or JFK generally.

Now looking at the tier table I need 30,000 to reach MPC Silver which is almost doable with a single return trip to JFK via HKG. This seems ok.
The next thing is the lounge access:

It appears from here that MPC Silver receives access to CX J lounges. QF you don't get this until at least Gold AFAIK.

But then if you look at the Brisbane Lounge access info here it appears the MPC Silver members have access to the QF Business lounge on departure, again more generous than QF.

So it seems that with 30,000 miles you can use lounges as long as you are on a CX flight. Does this seem right?

No, not that simple. I think that you'll find that discount economy doesn't earn anything at all on MPC.

Note that for MPC status qualification you need to count Club Miles or Club Sectors. Whilst most Club Miles and Asia Miles calculations will be the same, there are some subtle differences in some cases.

You should use this table: http://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_AU/travel-information/oneworld/frequent-flyer-benefits.html

In general, the cheapest Economy fares will not accrue any status currency on MPC.

As for the lounge access thing for MPC Silver, I have a sneaking suspicion that this access only applies to Cathay operated lounges. Any non-Cathay operated lounge (including other oneworld partners like Qantas) will not grant access to MPC Silver, even if you are travelling on a CX or KA flight. The table appears to be a copy-paste job with a caveat on the bottom stating that lounge access rules can vary for non-Cathay operated lounges. I guess you can always contact Marco Polo Club to check this.

MPC SL travelling on CX operated flight will receive lounge invitation, and it will indicate which lounge you are eligible to use (including non CX operated lounges)

This is incorrect!
as MPC silver you get lounge access as well in the non-cathay operate lounges as long as you are flying with CX/KA

That's good to know! Many sites I checked didn't make this very clear.

You have it right

bear in mind as an MPC SL you alone get lounge access, no guest access until you hit GO

do you have qf gold or platinum to ask for a status match? If so you may be able to be Matched straight to silver and then put all your flying towards gold instead of having to fly 90k miles the first time you reach gold.
