Platinum
Hi All,

My Platinum status has reverted to Gold as I haven't flown since Jan 2020. All my flying was international so I have little hope of resuming travel until next year 😬. I'm sure many are in similar situation. Got me thinking - is anyone still Platinum? Maybe if coming off Platinum One? What about by this time next year? Keen to hear your thoughts. Cheers, Mike

I'm still platinum, and I've done my one required flight to be extended into 2022.

Of course, if you don't do domestic it would be harder.

I’m still Platinum but unfortunately my membership year ends 31 Jan 2022 so at this stage I need to earn 600 status credits until then to maintain Platinum next year. It’s near impossible, had to postpone the last two trips from May and June due to border closures and next trip booked in mid July is also at risk.

I can see that the status extension now applies up to those whose membership year ends 31/12/21 so its only those who’s membership year ends in January 2022 or February 2022 are missing out. Does anyone have any thoughts on the likelihood of the status extension being given to the January and February memberships?

Still P1 thanks to status extensions and the required flight booking to maintain. understand the point though given how hard it has been to fly under the regular earn rules (hence the various support promotions and offers over the past 18 months).

I consider myself P1lite for sure since actual earned SC's are.... minimal. not through desire mind you! The travel budget has been mounting up during lockdowns ! lol

I'm still Platinum (until Feb 2022) and I'm currently 302 SC from retaining to Feb 2023, however I haven't really done that much flying, as 600 SC was a gift. Currently contemplating how much I need to earn, as there's a good chance I'll have Points Club Plus before my year ends, so if I got to a maximum 1300 SC at least I'd have a head start towards 2024 with the rollover?

I’m about 100 short to retain platinum by 31 Aug. I misread some fine print, I thought I would get double sc’s for all my Canberra to Christchurch sectors, but apparently it was only on the international legs. As it turns out both my original J class flights to and from Melbourne were changed to Sydney on the dreaded Q400, hence no J class anyway.

I'm still Plat and have earned 375 SCs (plus the QF SC Bonus) of my year to August 31 despite living in MEL. I'll remain Plat until 31-AUG-2022 courtesy of the extension.

Regards,

BD

August anniversary here. Have earned 36 SCs from flying since January 2020, but will retain Platinum to at least the end of August 2022, thanks to the initial 'no requirement', and subsequent 'book a flight' (which I flew) 12 month status extensions for all QFF members (did you miss these, Mike65?). If borders remain closed beyond the first few months into 2022, I'll be no chance of retaining without more gifting from QF.

Cheers,
Matt.

I think a further status extension offer is likely.

QF may even provide ways to fast track status from international travel for those who lost status due to the pandemic to try and encourage people to travel internationally again whether through DSC or other incentives once the initial period of pent-up demand subsides.

Edit: I have a few friends who have done the flight to retain Platinum. Part of me wishes I had spent the points to retain Platinum prior to the pandemic. My points balance is far more than I need at the moment. I have done the flight to retain Gold.

I am still in my standed P1 year as I had already retained. This should be extend through to Aug 22 as I like others have taken a few flights after the extension offer was announced. @RichardMEL I quite like the sound of P1lite and may have to use it from 1 Aug onwards unless of course you have unofficially claimed © or ™ (consistently inconsistent) 😆

I’m Platinum with membership year ending on 31 March. I retained until 31 March 2022 by taking the one flight in the nominated period. At the moment, I’m only doing personal domestic flying as my previous P1 and several years of Platinum were largely achieved by 1 or 2 longhaul overseas trips to see family and ski, plus a lot of domestic J work travel. Without those things, I only have 90SC a5 the moment, waiting for another 80 to fall from DSC flights, nothing carried forward from last year and no further flights booked at the moment. I sure hope they make another stat us retaining offer or I will definitely revert to my lifetime gold.

Hi Matt, my anniversary date is End April so I had Platinum until then. I also got the offer to extend with any booking, but I just couldn't justify going through that hassle so let it lapse. Frankly, I am unlikely to be travelling as much post-Covid (mostly work-related travel) so I may never travel enough to regain WP 😒

I'd say all you need for the rollover is any level of SCs (100 max). This is what happened to my this year as Platinum:

01-Feb-2021
EXPIRED STATUS CREDITS
-865

01-Feb-2021
POINTS CLUB - STATUS CREDITS ROLLOVER
+100

Still Platinum with a 30 March Anniversary. I requalled in 2020 and 2021 without the 2 status extension, on track to requal in 2022 too, though I am convinced Qantas will offer another extension.

I actually attained Platinum the membership year just gone (my year ends in June). I did this by taking advantage of as many of the status credit offers as possible (credit card signups, Woolworths, Red Energy, BP etc), the status support offered last year, double status credits offer from Feb last year / March this year and a moderate but not huge amount of flying (and when I did fly, where possible I followed the AFF rule of 'Why fly direct when you can connect?').

Might seem crazy to attain Platinum when travel (especially international) is so limited. But I figured I may as well take advantage of all the status credit offers that were available that aren't normally offered. I've now started my new membership year a 600 status credit head start (100 from Points Club Plus and 500 rollover) so retaining into 2023 should be easy as well — although as others have mentioned there will probably be additional support offered, especially with what's going on in Sydney right now.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Exactly the same situation although I didn't max out my 500 SC rollover, I'm starting on 362 SC. I'm expecting to renew Plat again this year if domestic travel is back later this year.
