The A330neo is still made. It is a bit smaller and bit cheaper than an A350

They do offer slightly different configurations too, based on their size. For instance, the A350 is commonly in a 3-3-3 config but because the A330 is narrower, it often has a 2-4-2 config. I believe one competes with the 787 and the other the 777, from my reading online.

Thanks, both, that's interesting. I guess I just assumed that, given its greater efficiency, the A350 would be scaled up/down to meet the same markets the various versions of the A330 meet. I suppose you could say the same for the 787/777. Presumably, the manufacturers know what they're doing.

And there are big price differences.
From 2018 (Airbus no longer publishes list prices)
  • A330-800neo: USD259.9 million;
  • A330-900neo: USD296.4 million;
  • A350-900: USD317.4 million;
  • A350-1000: USD366.5 million;
  • A380: USD445.6 million.
Airbus also originally had a small 350-800 planned but dropped this when they launched the 330neos

Flew on a brand new 330-900 last August. An Air Mauritius 5th freedom flight from KUL to SIN. While an hour wasn't a full test, I have no complaints. I hope they keep getting made. They might even have a bit more demand now if the A350 is looking a bit too big for airline fleet managers.

Am very pleased that the A330s still have 2 seats by the windows. Much nicer than a row of 3, especially when travelling with a partner in economy.
