Hey

I am thinking of doing a RTW with OW as they giving the 10% off deal till April.

oneworld - News

Last time I booked a LONE4 was in 2006 and thanks to this site got some great advice and did this trip:

SYD/SFO/NYC/CAN/ORD/BUF/ORD/NYC/LHR/CAI/BCN/IST/LHR/PEK/HKG/BOM/HKG/NRT/PER/CRN/MEL

I just wanted to find out if that same advice I got back in 2006 is still the go:

1. dont book with Qantas cause they charge fuel surchagre in taxes

2. book with AA as no fuel surcharges and thus cheaper than Qantas

3. book with AA and as many AA fligths cause AA Advantge points much better to have on RTW trips

4. You can book a 4 continent fare with upto 20 flights on a LONE4

5. Its best to book with Nth America as one of the 4 continenets cause then you get checked in baggage allowance upto 60kg (2 bags 30kg each) instead of just normal 20kg

6. If you can book from Turkey its much better cause that where the LONE4 is the cheapest

7. LONE4 better than Star Alliance or mileage RTW cause you can go backwards within a continent with no problems.

8. Finally can I do the above trip I did again ?

Are all these points still valid ?

Thanks

No. Now 16 segments max including ground. Ground segments to do not count for the continent limits (4/6) but do for the 16 max limit. The cheapest LONE4 varies with the exchange rate. Look on the Oneworld site have base price for each country. AA still better than QF due to those ### surcharges

Sort of true, AA do charge fuel surcharges but only on AA overwater flights, so if you choose another airlines inter-continental flights you will probably avoid them all but if you choose AA you will pay some, granted less than other airlines and only on those flights.

Be prepared to AA only to allow you to use there flight numbers on the overwater segments, or atleast one of them, i have done 2 xONEx's and i just let it happen, its easier to keep them happy and have it ticketed that be worried about 1 segment attracting a YQ. (eg AA7365 instead of QF107)

Current base prices for LONE4:

ex-Turkey: 2160 EURO = 4234 AUD
ex-NZ: 3420 NZD = 2725 AUD

Also - definitely cheaper to ticket it through AA - if booking using the online tool just ensure you select an AA flight for the first leg. I investigated recently and found a +++ difference of ~AU$700 between AA and QF(for the exact same flights). LAN also do not have the big +++.
