Is a $15 food and beverage credit enough to get you to say no housekeeping?

Noticed during my stay at the Sheraton Mirage that they offer a $15 credit to be spent at a hotel bar/restaurant for every day you refuse housekeeping except when checking out. While I like the idea, I think its a little too small an incentive, for instance you would need to forgo 4 days to be able to use the credit for a breakfast for one person at $40. I often say no one or two nights of a stay, with no incentive, especially when the hotel has left a nice bottle of wine, what would make you say no to housekeeping?

Is a $15 foor and beverage credit enough to get you to say no housekeeping?

If I'm at the Mirage I'm on holiday so no housekeeping for me. A definite no from me. Although, I wouldn't budge for $50 a day!

$15 at the IMHO well-padded margins of hotel bars isn't enough. Give me a direct cash discount on my hotel bill and then we're talking.

I can't stand housekeeping, so the DND sign is always on the door. If i'm staying for 5+ nights I may have a mid-stay clean but otherwise I don't use the service.

Therefore I would be happy with any incentive.

(OT but it really irritates me when hotels chase you for cleaning if the DND sign is up - e.g. phone calls and messages "can we come clean the room?")

At many SPG properties they offer "green choice" and you forgo housekeeping for 500 starpoints. At some properties this means you still get your bed made (but no changes in sheets, towels or restocking of partially used amenities). IMHO that's ok. But at some properties there is no housekeeping at all - I don't know what's so green about someone not making your bed - that's just stingy. I guess it saves fuel as less housekeeping staff required to commute to property. Generally I am happy use same sheets, towels and amenities and can survive without the floor being vacuumed or shower being cleaned - but at a four or five star property still prefer bed to be made (with the sheets I slept in)

And I always like the green choice option when I stay at SPG properties.Guess I am just cheap.:D

Gladly for me. On longer stays it would be nice every few days and when travelling with my two year old natural disaster area it's a bit necessary but for me, when travelling alone for work i couldn't really care less until the supplies run out.

The cost for the hotel to clean the room depends on whether they sub-contract their housekeeping department and also what day it is (weekends and public holidays would cost penalties).

$15 seems reasonable.

That being said, don't assume they are offering this deal as a cost cutting measure. Part of their thinking would be that if they can get you down to their restaurant/bar and accept a $15 credit you would also stay and have a few more drinks or maybe even have dinner.

It wouldn't entice me, however I'm unlike other posters here in that I like my room to be serviced, particularly the bathroom. I like to come back after a long day to a nicely made up room and spotless bathroom.

$15 is not enough. When staying in FNQ recently the difference at many places was $40-50.

Pathetic that companies have the temerity to talk Eco and green when they really mean their bottom line.

If it reduces their carbon tax bill some should be passed on.

When I was in Las Vegas and didn't need the house keeping I would look for the house keeper and tell her that I didn't need any service that day and invite her to enter the room and make the magic phone call that showed they had entered the room. I stood at the door holding it open to avoid any misunderstandings.

The staff were very happy with this arrangement because it meant they were shown as having done their work.

As for being paid to forgo the service, I would have to think about that a bit more. For slobs the amount of work needing to be done at the end of the stay might outweigh the time saving in not servicing the room on a daily basis.
