Having just booked a trip to JFK the stop-over in LAX between flights in both directions is very short.

80 minutes going and 95 minutes on return.

Itenary:
31 Oct11:10 Melbourne07:30 Los AngelesQF093
13 Nov
08:50 Los Angeles16:50 New York (JFK) QF107

So as one has to clear customs at LAX is 80 minutes enough time to enjoy the QC and preferably have a shower before having to board the flight to JFK?

I assume clearing customs will very in time, but I was wondering what the experionces of flyers had been on how long it took them to get from the plane to the QC?

Thanks.

I have experienced this both ways (QF93/QF107 - QF108/QF94) and avoid if at all possible.

As for chances of a shower, It depends upon your travel class and/or status. In any case you would normally not have a lot of time.

You will disembark at TBIT, hopefully at a terminal, not a bus gate.

If on a 388 it will not be a bus gate but there is still a 400 yard 'walk' to customs/immigration, followed by queuing.

As you are in WHY, queuing is almost guaranteed; it depend how many you can overtake in your 'walk'.

If you have checked luggage you will need to collect it after immigration, walk a short way, then redeposit it for carriage to JFK.

You then exit TBIT and head right, about 100 yards to T4. you enter and head upstairs to security xray; there's almost always a queue. Near the Qantas check in counters there a premium queue where those in F, J or with PS (and above) and maybe QP can avoid some of the wait. There will be an agent checking your credentials before you head up an escalator.

One through security, the entrance to the QP/AC is in the right, about 60 metres.

You show your credentials there and head up one level to the A/C. I would try to arrange a shower immediately on arrival. (I've never employed the A/C showers as I have access to the F/L, so can't help as to how to do this ) If busy they'll put you on a wait list and page you when one is available.

Well at least at present I am not at back, back of the plan...though I guess there will be other flights.

Thanks....and yes I thought it looked very tight.

 what I posted yesterday is incorrect as QF107/QF108 now employ TBIT to/from both SYD and JFK!

This has been the case since Oct 1st.

So, after redepositing your bags you will need to follow the transfer/transit signs within TBIT and head through security back airside. This, I have not done.

Take the lift to the oneworld lounge floor ond you will be admitted to the J lounge where you can arrange a shower if you have sufficient time. At least with this the chances are better.

Thanks for that...and excellent new...though the 80 minutes may work against me still.

Clarifying.. QC Membership get you into the J lounge?

Note that both my wife and I are both QC Members.
