Subscribing to this thread, eagerly awaiting the legendary AFF points cost benefit analysis of this award option. What is the toaster equivalent of a week with a Corolla?

Using Avis, about 63-65 c per 100 points. Don't know the toaster:Corolla ratio, but in terms of gift vouchers it is worth 94-97% of a woolies/myer voucher or 88-91% of David Jones/QF/JQ vouchers.

So anyone who shops at Woolworths, Big W, David Jones or Myer or fuels using Caltex is better off using their points that way to save cash they can use for car hire.

You beat me to the punch.
My cynical side says it could be a 4 wheel toaster

while earning QFF points for both the credit card spend and eligible car rental :)

But options for redeeming points is generally a good thing. Some redemptions will be good for some people and not so good value for others. The poor value ones tend not to get redeemed very often.

Based on my quick calc, each QFF point is worth roughly:

- Using "Points + Pay" for flights - 0.78 cents
- Using for car hire as noted here - 0.64 cents
- For a De'Longhi Distinta 4 slice toaster compared to current Bing Lee price - 0.41 cents.

Spend, spend, spend, and keep accumulating those 'valuable' QFF points!

Not forgetting valuable redemptions like MEL-SIN return in economy @ 0.58c per point [or SIN-MEL return in economy @ 0.5c per point]

Too true. International premium class redemptions can get you 5 - 7 cents per point, but they are like unicorns running through fields of four leaf clovers. AU domestic redemptions can get you 2 - 3 cents, so using them at 0.64 cents for hire cars may now be an option but really poor value. Still, better than a toaster.

Thank you Supersonic Swinger and dajop for that brilliant analysis.

So it is 56% better value to redeem car hire over the toaster, but 1120% better value to redeem those rare premium QF classic awards over the toaster.

Food (presumably not toast) for thought.

So we all got the email announcing this new 'adventurous' way to use points... with a picture of a sports car in what looks like some exciting place in America (car on right hand side of the road).

But according to the blurb it is only available in Australia and New Zealand.

So is the 'adventure' driving on the wrong side of the road?

not only on the 'wrong' side of the road; there doesn't seem to be anyone in the drivers seat!!!!

Got the email. Didn't bother reading the details.

Poor redemption value but a little better value than I originally thought.
