International WiFi onboard

Would you use if this were available? I haven't come across on my trips but I would, for the duration of the flight, if cost wasn't prohibitive. I could get so much work done and also keep in touch with family.

I've had it available on several long haul journeys and couple of short haul in Nth America, including Qantas trial a while back.

The cost is usually not insubstantial (order of $30 is what I remember for the TPAC trips) and its often not constant - some countries don't allow it when you are transiting their airspace.

After the first time, the novelty wore off and I haven't bothered again, even on business trips where I was working on the flight. Nice to be disconnected for a while.

I have a number of flights with AA coming up, so I will be looking at a 24hr pass or similar to try it out.

I probably wouldn't bother as a rule but this time I may be in the air more than on the ground.

I think it's nice to have the option.

Especially to catch up on emails.

And I do like it in North America - helps alleviate the boredom of trips and one can google where they are and answer those questions that you forget to look up once you land.

I had a surreal experience of chatting to a mate of mine while I was on some AA flight and he was at sea with the US Navy - made me realise how far we've come from snail mail!

I used it inbound on UA this time last year LAX to SYD. It was around $20 USD IIRC. Speed was fine for social media and email but that's about it. Helped keep me in contact via Facebook IM with my partner on the ground who was waiting for standby clearance with VA.

I think with AA you buy say 2 hours, 4 hours or duration of flight.

AA have a 24hr pass for $16. I am only flying domestic, so that would work well for me.

I'm online most of the day so I don't mind to disconnect and relax for a few hours when flying.
I hope WiFi won't become common in flights anytime soon. Last thing I want is to hear pax talking loudly on Skype like some do in the lounges.

I used it on EY earlier this year AUH-SIN-BNE, it was cheap and surprisingly fast.

I used it for half an hour on both Alaska and delta one for the novelty and one just to pass time. A good way to keep me occupied and to load Pocket with articles to read late.

I used it on PER-AUH recently on Etihad - something like $20 for 24 hours. It was fine for email, and I enjoyed the novelty of shopping for shoes at 40,000 feet Probably wouldn't bother again though.
