I have a trip booked BNE-SIN-LHR. I have requested a point upgrade for SIN-LHR leg, and I am wondering if it affects my chance of getting the points upgrade since I will be checked in all the way through to LHR (and hence I will have already checked in for SIN-LHR leg before the 5-hour cut-off).

Could anyone who can shed light on this?

Upgrades are requested for individual segments these days. This is clear if you look online at the Qantas.com upgrade request facility and how you select these.

Also, upgrade requests tend to be processed between 12 and 24 hours before the sector so check-in time would not normally be an issue in your case.

IMO, there should be no affect whatsoever.

Thanks Serfty. Indeed, I only requested the upgrade on the 2nd sector and that was why I was a bit concerned as to whether the fact that I am checked in before the 'five hours' thing would affect my chance of getting it.

I have just done something similar. I checked in from LCA-LHR-HKG-SYD on QF for HKG-SYD and had all three boarding passes. I checked my QF points in LHR and no deduction for upgrade. I got to HKG and the points had been deducted.
