I'm travelling overseas with the family in 2007 (wife and 2 kids 12&9 y.o.) in Qantas Economy and was wondering if the 4 of us could all get access to lounges in Hong Kong (CX or QC), Heathrow, Gatwick and Rome as a QFPlat/OW Emerald. The rules all say one guest although shouldn't be a problem at QC at Tullamarine with the two extra (kids).
Anyone had experience with this?
Happy New Year to all.

Hi

My experience for a similar trip in May:

SYD T1 F-Lounge: Let 3 adults, 2 toddlers and a 9 month old in - very nice people
SIN - J Lounge: Above again
LHR BA Lounges: No can do - 1 guest, children included (Dragons on front door of lounge proper)
AMS BA Lounge - reiterated above but let us in anyway
HKG QF F Lounge - 2 adults, 2 children no problem.

The key is to be polite, smile and ask nicely. While being a WP does help, I've found most lounge staff very nice and helpful.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply.

My experiences with BA lounge staff has been similar. Venomous to say the least! Admittedly I was flying Emirates at the time and tried to get into the BA lounge in Dubai. It was 6.30am and the lounge was empty and thought I'd have a chance as a OW Emerald.
I'll just have to leave the 2 kids in the foyer with the Nintendo and PSP to occupy them.

I think in my case divorce would have quickly followed. I guess I could have taken one of the kids in!:D

Mind you, T4 does have a few coffee shops to rest the wearies etc.

CX are strict too. As they told me, if they bend the rules at holiday periods, there is not enough room in many of their lounges.
For the past fews years I have paid by wife's QC membership very much for this reason.

I have seen CX lounge staff tell a lounge member to choose which one of her elderly parents to bring into the lounge.

The lounge Dragon would not have looked out of place on a guard tower at Guantanamo Bay.

Problem was solved by me "adopting" one of the elderly parents.

I've done this in the QF lounge in HK. The only trade off was the Bus lounge instead of the F lounge. No big deal as we all needed showers and it was time to board by the time we finished in the showers. We then all got an Opup to business. :D :D :D
