Dear AFF members,

The Air New Zealand Lounge in Sydney (T1) international terminal is undergoing an extensive refurbishment which commenced on 1 November 2014.

During this time, eligible guests including Velocity Gold and Platinum members departing from Sydney will have access to the following partner lounges:

Flight

Lounge
VA1 SYD-LAX
Etihad Airways Lounge
(During the refurbishment of the Air New Zealand Lounge only)

VA29 SYD-AUH
Etihad Airways Lounge
Flights operated by Virgin Australia
(except VA1 & VA29)

Temporary Air New Zealand Lounge
Flights operated by Air New Zealand
Temporary Air New Zealand Lounge
Delta Air Lines SYD-LAX
Temporary Air New Zealand Lounge
Hawaiian Airlines SYD-HNL
Temporary Air New Zealand Lounge
Flights operated by Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge

The temporary Air New Zealand lounge is located on Level 1 in Pier C of the international terminal (gates 50-63), down stairs (or lift) from the Pier C seating area. Guests will be able to continue to enjoy the same Air New Zealand Lounge amenities and services in the temporary lounge.

For the duration of the refurbishment, eligible guests departing on Virgin Australia International Long Haul services to Los Angeles (and Abu Dhabi) will have access to the Etihad Airways lounge which is located before gate 51.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns regarding these temporary arrangements.

It's in the old MH lounge area - that was shut down soon enough after they entered *O ... (after bulk migration to the QF facilities)

What VA really need to do is provide permanent access to the etihad lounge on your flagship LA service.

The air NZ lounge just doesn't compare with the Qantas first and business lounges....

Come on VA... It's about time!!!

phew, glad this got posted before I ended up looking lost tomorrow

ETA on completion?

Here's hoping the refurb ends up looking something like NZ's stellar "Star Alliance" lounge at LAX

Yair, how long to completion?
I am doing class D on Air NZ next year, while I will have two tries of the temp lounge, I would like to try the proper Koru Club at least once. Not a temporary one.
6 months from Nov?

Hopefully it takes a little while.....the more time the better it might be

Hope it doesn't take too long otherwise my short fling with ANZ/VA will end this trip and I'll be back on QF/OW to NZ.

In the lounge at the moment - it is full, ie standing room, food is mediocre at best - the QF Gladstone lounge last week was far superior... hmmmmm
They are sending overflow guests up to the Singapore lounge - excludes VA flights and Velocity passengers...

Holding a NZ J fare will entitle you access to the SQ lounge anyways, so no need to squeeze into the temp lounge with everyone else ;)

So in Jan, entitled to EY lounge access before this change, I'm now likely to be overcrowded in the whole lounge saga. Wonderful. Why am I not surprised. I also wonder why VFF can deliver the bad news (for some) but not finish the spiel.....like completion date. Been asked politely by a few AFFers, no response by VFF. Why am not surprised by that either.

Sorry if I seem ungrateful, the Koru definitely needed work, but why is there always dramas getting a workable lounge these days?

EDIT......given BNE dom lounge is not due for completion until Mar 2015, I really doubt the SYD Koru (suggested) completion.

Going by the rate of progress at BNE dom Lounge - I agree Mar 2015 looks extremely optimistic for both the VA BNE lounge and the SYD NZ Koru club! Hopefully NZ will be using a different contractor to that at BNE domestic.

Lowjhg, really?
But my etix shows NZ D class though, not real NZ J class.
Pity that it will take so long, but then, on the other hand, it "must" be a great thing when it does get finished.
BUT, will try my luck anyways. SQ SK J (business) lounge must go good, never been into the SYD SQi SK J lounge before... will look forward to it. Think good thoughts, think good thoughts, good thoughts only...
Edit: just had a read of some info, from our friends at AusBT, ahhh, if I could eat some Asian inspired cakes/desserts/foods again, even at an SQ lounge, bliss!!!
+++Thanks a mill for the tip, Lowjhg.
Rubbing my hands in glee!

*A rules allow access on a Business class ticket

International Business Class Customers

Customers have access to any Star Alliance member carriers' owned Business Class lounges.

  • Customer must present a boarding pass for travel in International Business Class on a Star Alliance flight
  • Customer must be departing from the local airport in International Business Class
  • Customers must be a revenue customer
  • Customer is not entitled to any guests

I'd say you tick all the boxes.

I was in the NZ SYD lounge a few weeks ago - compared with the SQ lounge it was dreadful. This renovation is long overdue.

Is the SkyTeam lounge open yet? Will it be less crowded once a few random airlines move out of the NZ Lounge?

Thanks all, and yes, thanks to the OP too.
Ah, never thought in the beginning that all this could "work" out in my favour.
Paws crossed, heh, this will be my 2 chances to feel the SQ SK J lounge.
Ok, will give others the chance to get a word in. BLISS!
If only VA had joined *A!

Just be aware that apparently the SQ lounge has been know to try and redirect people to the NZ lounge when they are not flying on SQ, so you may need to be a little persistent
