Has anyone had luck in requesting a move to an earlier flight when booked on a J award ticket? Flight is international J, QF metal SIN-PER - EF is showing J5 I0 U0, so there is space but not in award / discount buckets.

I am WP and ticket is booked using QFF points but not sure if that makes a difference in this instance.

Have only had experience travelling on domestic flex revenue ticket and allowed on an earlier flight, but obviously international is a different story.

I am guessing the answer is going to be 'ask at the counter and find out', but hoping that someone has had some success with this in the past, before we make the trip out to the airport only to be told that it's not even an option

OK, how much earlier is your target flight? And what is the loading on your booked flight?

The earlier flight is at 1910, showing J3 C3 D0 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K8 M0 L0 G0.
The flight I'm booked on is at 2340, showing J1 C0 D0 I0 Y4 B3 H1 K0 M0 L0 G0.

I have 2 seats on the later flight so the J3 doesn't look good - guessing that these could be earmarked for upgrades. But alternatively it seems that the later flight is pretty full in Y and J, so offloading us might make sense?

As a platinum you can ring in advance to see if they are prepared to release the revenue seats to award inventory. That might give you a heads-up on your chances of success to move on the day.

I agree with MEL_traveller; while with that J3 makes things look tight; a combined view of the loading gives a notional J4 C3 D0 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K8 M0 L0 G0 and they may be prepared to 'flow forward'.

How soon is this flight? If a week or so away I suspect the Business class numbers will approach 0 before the flights and it becomes moot.

You can front up at 5pm and ask - if knocked back at least that gives you four+ hours to escape the airport and find a nice meal somewhere - easily done from Changi ...

I did make a request to release some award seats from I bucket (availability was showing), but was knocked back unfortunately.

Did exactly that - was at the airport at around 5ish, by which time the earlier flight was showing J1 (was looking good when I left the hotel!). The girl at checkin had to deny the request due to lack of spare seats. Unlucky for us... unfortunately because of the lack of availability, I cannot confirm or deny the ability to move an award flight earlier :(

I'm going to jump on this thread and ask for the odds of them letting me fly earlier on a domestic J revenue booking?

I'm flying SYD-BNE-NRT in April and there's only 1.5 hours at Brisbane (which is tight to begin with), plus I wouldn't mind getting plenty of time in at the new Brisbane International lounge. What are the chances they'll let me change my QF504 (07:00-08:30) to the earlier 6:30am QF502?

In my experience, quite good - though they may charge you the change fee. I've always avoided it by arguing the "connection is too tight for comfort" line.....

On the day of travel, if you turn up in time for the earlier flight, and if there's availability - you probably have a good chance.

Small update - I messaged them on Facebook and they told me the connection time is comfortable enough and wanted to charge me $480 if I wanted to change the domestic flight to an earlier one. I might call up later on and see how I go, or just rock up early on the day.

turning up at the airport probably your best options. calling in advance it will usually involve a change fee.
