I just read in the FF Gazette today that "A few weeks ago, Qantas cancelled almost all of its international flights until 24 October 2020. These cancellations were quietly extended yesterday by another five months, until the end of March 2021."

Anyone know any more about that? I've just checked my bookings and my January 2021 award flights to Japan are still showing up, although maybe they haven't gotten around to cancelling everything yet.

My bookings for Christmas are also still showing, but I tried a dummy booking for the same flights and there are no availability at all...

QF has zeroed all international availability except NZ until NS21 season. That usually is the precursor for the fact QF will cancel them.

Yep, this happened with previous cancellations. They zeroed out all the availability but kept the PNRs intact.

So presumably I will be getting the bad news by email when they get round to it :(:(

Mine is before yours so I'll remember to report back here when/if QF contacts me...

Well QF will let me fly SYD-SIN in October.Overnight on JQ via MEL and DRW.
Somehow think I wont take them up on it.

I've got a One World Award booking for Brisbane to Doha via Singapore late February.
I'm wondering whether to cancel that and look for a BNE-xx_ in Australia then onwards to Doha from there .
xx_ could be SYD,MEL,PER or ADL.
I haven't received an email yet cancelling my BNE-SIN flight on QF but i am assuming its coming.
So the choice, hang onto the current booking via SIN or change to xx_ to DOH.
The question is will Qatar still be flying when Qantas is not at that stage.
Qatar is still flying internationally now and appears to intend to continue doing so but who knows?
Of course Qatar is currently flying out of BNE but i cannot see any availability beyond september.
Any thoughts?

Well,
I rang QFF explained the situation and they were ok to change flights to get to Morocco via HongKong ( Cathay and Qatar) rather than via Singapore ( QF and QR).
Sadly no seats on the original day but I was happy enough to take the day before.

That's put an end to our white Christmas, not that it was likely we would have gone anyway. We were so chuffed we'd snagged reward J seats too. 😭

I have emirates first booked to germany, initially for December but have since moved this to mid February. Not looking good at this stage, they already cancelled my DXB-HAM on the a380 and rebooked it on the 773 for the next day.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Can they do an Antarctica flight so we can at least experience being in the air again and see something different?

Don’t need to, It is a Ministerial determination made under powers conferred by the Biosecurity Act, and the Act also provides that such a determination is not a disallowable instrument. This is also the second time it has been extended; it can only be made for three months at a time, which is where mid December comes from.

Note that the emergency declaration is not the overseas travel ban determination, it merely enables that and a zillion others to continue in force. And I’d expect come early December that it will be extended again. The Overseas travel ban determination (also not disallowable) could be amended, revoked etc any time the government fancies.

There is a Senate Standing Committee which scrutinises delegated legislation
They promised to scrutinise this stuff in due course, other than the non-disallowable ones.

This is a roundabout way of saying that the extension announcement says nothing definitive about how much longer the overseas travel ban would remain.
