Interesting sight during the F lounge run a few weeks back were 2 BA aircraft parked away from the gates. The SIN-SYD and BKK-SYD flights get in at around 5:00am and then do nothing until late afternoon. What a waste of aircraft....
The problem is that most flights from Australia to Asia are scheduled to continue or connect to flights to Europe. So if they depart Australia any earlier than the current schedules, they will have to wait in SIN/BKK/HKG etc before they can depart their Asian stopover and head to Europe for an arrival time that avoids the European curfews.

So those BA aircraft have to wait somewhere. It would seem that connecting passengers would rather not have a 6 hour stopover in SIN or BKK.

Now that does not mean that there is no demand/desire for people who are not continuing to Europe to depart Australia earlier, especially those with connections to other places in Asia. But it would seem that QF does not believe there is sufficient demand for such a service  .

But even a compromise and arrive into SIN or BKK around 5:00-6:00pm would suit both sides. I know it won't happen but just wishful thinking.

All those late night arriving flights are absolutely useless for connecting in SE Asia.

I know that SQs hub is SIN but I find it quite strange that SQ is able to justify, and fill, 3 flights a day to SYD alone. Don't they also have daily flights to PER, ADL, MEL and BNE? I bet the majority of passengers are Australians going about their business in SIN or SE Asia.

I just wish Oneworld, and especially QF, would consider SIN, BKK and HKG as destinations and transit points into Asia/SE Asia rather than transit point into Europe. I believe they are grooming these type of routes to JQ but that is where they are going to lose a lot of customers. Just need to find a suitable FF program for SQ, TG and MH flights.

SQ is triple daily to MEL, double daily to BNE, double daily to PER, and daily to ADL.

And used to be triple daily to BNE but alas that little thing called demand. Hence, JohnK you have a great suggestion but maybe MEL and not BNE

I wasn't being biased or SYD centric. All I mentioned was either SYD/MEL/BNE to have an early Oneworld flight into SIN. I think it is possible and would be very popular....

Now I didn't suggest that JohnK, did I? ;) I think an early flight would be a great idea for Oneworld but as much as it pains me to say it, there isn't enough demand out of BNE yet it SQ is cutting flights. Myabe when EK go direct to Dubai though.

Hang on, what am I saying. We want it from Melbourne- more miles and a nicer coloured FF card! ;)

I thought it used to be triple daily to PER as well, but seems not quite these days. Most days are three, and a two days there are only two flights. I ahven't totted it up lately but SQ alone used to operate more international seats out of PER to SIN than QF to all its destinations.
