Unfortunately, life has dealt me a blow, that I'm slowly coming to terms with.

I've joined the ranks of the victims of Australia's most unethical Government sponsored authority .... The Child Support Agency ( CSA ).

( those who know about what the CSA does to people, will know exactly what I mean ... )

To the question ...

It looks like I'm likely to have a Departure Prohibition Order ( DPO ) slapped on my Australian Passport ( due to a dispute with the CSA. The ex wife doesn't care. She wipes her hands of whatever they do to me ).

However, some months ago, I didn't realise the CSA had the power to impose a DPO.

I've booked and paid for a cheap International return flight with Jetstar.

I know the 'usual' story with Jetstar's position on refunds / cancellations, but does anyone think I CAN cancel my booking if there is an actual DPO on my Passport ?

( please, spare me any moralistic rants toward me as a so-called 'deadbeat dad'. There is much much more detail to my story, and I'm sure nobody here wants to hear it. Ex wife has been offered a fair settlement, but refused. )

I doubt it. I suspect their T&Cs require you to have a valid passport, right to leave, visa etc.

It could be proved, that at the time of 'booking and paying', I had a valid Passport ...

I don't like your chances. Could you challenge the order?

Your best bet is a good family lawyer, I reckon. You will be wasting your time with J*.

Sorry to hear of your problem and I know it doesn't mean you are a deadbeat dad.In my line of work you meet all kinds of people in all sorts of trouble and by far the worst is a bitter Family Court battle.
But don't get a "good"lawyer. You need a "bast**d"lawyer.Nice guys run last in these battles.
But a lawyer unfortunately is what you need. But then I guess you have one.

A DPO is only used in the most serious cases and usually for repeat offenders. If your problem is not that serious a DPO should not be applied.

Thanks responders.

I sent an email to Passport Office. They won't give a 'yes' or 'no' for ( you guessed it ) .... PRIVACY reasons.

You know the story ? The email you sent may not be you ?????

Anyway, I have to phone them. ( yep, I thought the same ..... 'well what if it's not me on the other end of the phone' ?? )
