Hi. Apologies, I’ve looked everywhere and can’t see this answer. Currently in USA and flying back to AU on 17 April.

When flying out this will already be 18 April in AU. Do you think I will still need a supervised RAT (i.e. do you think the drop in requirement will be effective from the date in AU or date I fly out of USA?).

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated and hope that makes sense - thanks

We are in the same case - flying out the 16th evening USA to Australia LAX to SYD.
As far as we are aware after reading ressources, the test will still be required as the leaving date is still the 16th from the point of departure.

Thanks for that! Such a shame isn’t it, so close but so far, haha.

Is a pre departure test. Not an arrival test. From a FT thread pre departure testing is not required after 00:01 18 April AEST. Before that it is required. 16 April LAX time is before that time. 17 April may be OK, but check the time zones/date line.
Will be issues with some people boarding flights from USA. Based on local vs AEST time will be the confusion/interpretation.

DoH replied. The language reads that starting 00:01 18 April AEST pre-departure testing will no longer be required.

Thanks to the above posters for the input, apologies for not acknowledging it sooner. In the end Qantas cancelled the direct LAX to MEL flight and we were moved to the LAX to MEL via SYD the next day so there was no need to test. Oh boy, transiting via Sydney airport, that was something else! Thanks again.
