I have a flight booked MEL-LHR-MEL in Dec, back in Jan in J class. Will be over in UK later on in 2010 as well and since flights from LHR-Aus are much cheaper than the other way round (moreso given current exchange rates) would there be any problem with me 'inserting' another flight in the middle of the one I already have, to take me LHR-MEL-LHR?

I want to use oneworld if possible but not necessarily QF (the MEL-LHR-MEL i have right now is on QF) so possibly they'd never figure out, even if it was frowned upon... any thoughts?

Also, if it's OK, any suggestions on good UK Travel Agents who could get me a bargain AY/CX/JL or even QF/BA fare?

Cheers.

Nesting flights like this is perfectly fine - nothing to worry about really.

Agree with notzac here. I've had occasion where i've had a PER-MEL-PER flight booked, and in order to be able to take it (I live in MEL) I booked a MEL-PER-MEL flight.

This in effect gave me 2 x MEL-PER-MEL flights, but on separate bookings. No problems doing it at all:)

I travel to NZ regularly and have had one booking or another terminating in AKL for most of the year.

MEL-AKL-MEL on QF costs from $425, AKL-MEL-AKL from NZD445 (~$355).

Of course, these are standard fares. Ex NZ Qantas and AirNZ are closely matched in price and when there are sales it's a lot less.

My last AKL-MEL-AKL on Qantas fare cost me NZD429 (~$340).
