In people's experience, what is the current state of play in QF interlining bags on seperate BA ticket?

They won't do it, unless one of the bookings is an award - my understanding anyway.
 
A few months back leaving from LHR, BA wouldn't do it, the check in clerk even asked his manager to confirm but was an outright no.

Are they both separate revenue tickets or is one an award ticket?

Some people have had success with separate tickets when booking through a TA who uses Amadeus however separate bookings through qantas.com and britishairways.com won't cut it.

I recently travelled QF9 to LHR on a revenue ticket connecting to an award flight on BA to MXP (so 2 separate tickets). Was concerned about having my luggage checked through to MXP but at Mel airport (admittedly at 1st class checkin) they sorted it out no worries (as per the Qantas website). However BA told me for the return journey (MXP-LHR award on BA, LHR-MEL revenue on QF) that they would not be able to check the luggage through - so I changed my award flight to the day before to ensure I had enough time for the connection in LHR. I would expect zero chance when the first leg is BA.

Both of my tickets are paid for.
QF 1 then LHR to CPH.

3 hours difference between the flight.

i can get an award booking 6 hours later, if needed

Where did you speak to BA - phone res or on arrival at LHR?

If both BA flights ie LHR/MXP and MXP/LHR were in the same BA pnr your return sector MXP/LHR would probably have already merged with the QF LHR/MEL flight in the Altea checkin system. Therefore if you still had your original flight MXP/LHR on the same day as LHR/MEL, as both QF and BA flights were merged on the way over (in the checkin system only - not res pnrs which are still separate) BA in MXP should through check you MXP/MEL as your QF2 flight would already appear in the checkin system as an oncarriage flight ie BA would not have had to add the flight manually as oncarriage - not that they would have anyway.

Anyway you've already changed to the day prior which is probably not a bad thing.

BA's FLY ignores some of Altea's default behaviour in a number of ways, so whilst this may be the case with carriers using native Altea, it doesn't necessarily apply to BA. The LKRL function is a good example - works fine on QF and other native Altea carriers, but not on BA FLY.
 
Sorry to jump onto this, but to be honest, I find the new website confusing.

I tried to find my answer....maybe it's just me.

Anyway, if I have a paid AA flight from JFK to LAX, then an award flight LAX to MEL, will my bags be checked all the way through? They would be on seperate Booking numbers.

If not, I may book the day before, as concerned about time collecting bags and rechecking in at Qantas at LAX, and security again etc etc

Also, what lounge access is there at JFK for platinums?

Has anyone found that QF often reissue AA boarding passes in LAX for QF flights?

This was back when they ran the T4 to TBIT transfer bus, so perhaps it doesn’t happen any more.

I always found that weird.
 
I have an interesting one coming up. Have syd-akl on one qf rev ticket and a separate qf rev ticket with qf codeshare operated by Air Tahiti Nui akl-ppt.

You may ask why not on one ticket but i had planned syd-akl previously and ppt later.

I believe they should through check me based on both qantas tickets and both with QF code, what will happen?

Real world reports are that whilst some agents are aware of the exception case for awards, the vast majority aren't. That means they are denying the through-check.

JFK T8 has a lovely new AA flagship lounge which you will be able to use.

Hi Madrooster,

I actually booked jfk to lax, and then lax to Melb a few days later, so my original question about interlining bags from jfk thru on AA & QF, is irrelevant now.

However, I’ve now changed plans, leaving Melb to lax on QF award ticket. ( via first check in if this helps) and then connecting on an AA domestic revenue fare.

Do you think the Melb checkin will thru check my bags? Are they aware of this or do you think I need to be prepared with info about it?
