Hi,

I didn't know where to ask so I am asking here. I am going to be using my QF Points to make a Classic redemption. The combination the site is showing me for my one way business class redemption is this from BKK-ADL

Emirates BKK-HKG 13:45 - 17:30
Cathay HKG-ADL 19:15 - 06:30

Now as this will be I assume on the 1 itinerary will my bags be checked through to Adelaide when I check-in at BKK Airport at the Emirates Counter via the interline agreement? Or will I have to collect my luggage in Hong Kong, go through customs to exit the airport, re-enter the airport, go through customs again and check-in? If so is 1hr 45min enough time as the Cathay counter closes 45 min before departure (leaving me 1hr)?

Lastly what happens if the EK flight is late and I miss my last flight? Will Cathay say bad luck speak to Qantas whom you made the redemption via?

Sorry for the many questions above as I don't want to get caught out.

As you are on 1 ticket and cx/ek have interline agreements there should be no problem re through check.

Hard to say about the missed connections part becomes murky when multiple carriers involved and a 3rd party as the ticketing airline. Others on here might know.

Firstly HKG airport is similar to SIN airport in that you can go to transfer counter and ask them to transfer luggage to your next flight if bags were not tagged through.

Secondly one does not need an interline agreement or the same ticket for bags to be checked through to destination.

Checked in at BKK airport last week for TG flight BKK-SIN connecting to QF flight SIN-SYD on separate tickets. Obviously 2 different alliances, I was travelling economy and I am not sure if these 2 airlines have an interline agreement. I was surprised he was able to check bags through to SYD.

I think you mean that it doesn't matter if EK & CX have an IATCI agreement (see below). They must however have an interline baggage agreement in place for the bags to be through checked from EK to CX ie BKK/xHKG/ADL. Some airlines may choose to only interline bags if both flights on on the same ticket.

As this is the one booking all the OP needs to worry about is if EK have a baggage interline agreement with CX. If EK & CX also have an IATCI agreement (inter airline through check in) then EK would also be able to issue the onward boarding pass on CX. If not, then just proceed to the transfer or interline desk at the connecting port ie HKG in the OP's case.

Your example of TG to QF on separate tickets indicates that there is an interline agreement for baggage and that TG are not fussed whether both flights are in the same booking ie can be separate pnrs.

If it was the other direction ie SYD QF SIN TG BKK whilst QF will interline to TG if both flights are on the same ticket, they won't if flight are in separate pnrs. Even when baggage interline agreements are in place between airlines it's still up to the accepting carrier whether they will do this if carriers aren't in the same alliance.
