Was reading the letters sent to SMH this morning:

Letters: Turned away from hotel after Wotif booking

I wanted to read more about the issues with Wotif but was struck buy this complaint:

"Left in dark
My husband and I left Honolulu for Sydney, flying with Jetstar on January 23. As we reached altitude the flight attendants closed the shutters and turned off the main lights.
Being in the middle of three seats I had no light above me and I had to spend 10 hours and 45 minutes in the dark. I called the flight attendant but he had no explanation and walked away.
I have not been able to contact anyone at Jetstar to discuss this matter."

Not having travelled in the Y cabin of the JQ A330 (only *class where I can) I find it strange that a seat would not have a light?

It doesn't actually say that the light wasn't there. It could also be read as the light wasn't working. (I have yet to see a plane which doesn't have a light above every seat).

As for turning off the cabin lights, well this appears to be standard practice on all medium to long haul flights, so I don't think the pax can complain about that...
I've been on A330's in Y, and never noticed a light missing above a seat, so is there any AFF'er who has been on an A330 which is missing the light above the seat?

The letter seems to indicate that there was no light because she was in the middle seat which I do find out, it could well be that is was U/S, but I am curious to hear of anyone's experience, given that the 4 seat rows turn into three I thought perhaps there might have been four lights!

Hi all,

Seems strange that all the lights would be turned off so soon after takeoff.

Not having flown long haul JQ but don't they have a "meal" service after takeoff to sell there wares.

Surely that would require lighting.

Whenever possible Jetstar want travellers to sleep and therefore not to have to worry about them - however in my experience they at least try to sell you some food.

I also agree I've never been on a jet plane without a light above every seat - although I've had then not working :(

Depends on how literal you are with the word "above". Not sure about the A330, but some aircraft the seats are indeed not "above" the passenger but angle down from a central point. If it wasn't working well one could possibly draw a conclusion that there wasn't one there (although the FA would know better).

That's assuming the FA wants to help, judging by the letter I doubt they did...
