Hey AFF,

Now my Asia trip this year is fully planned and booked, I am moving my attention to my US trip in 2015 (early, I know, but I like to be organised so I can pounce on sales as they come up). More importantly, I was considering (like a post just put up) either doing the direct MEL-LAX on QF or VA which you can pick up Y for ~$1200 depending on the dates, or the MEL-NAN-LAX option - but while checking out Matrix ITA this morning I saw some pretty interesting routing on an EK flight option.

My question is, if I wanted to have a lot of fun and do some interesting layovers in some cities that it is unlikely I would ever get a chance to go unless I was passing through, what would AFF recommend? I am sure a few on here have done some obscure runs before...

At the end of this it is my intention that the trip will leave from the east coast; MEL or SYD or BNE, end up on the US west coast, then leave from the US east coast and fly back to the AU east coast, though I would't be opposed to doing the same thing but in reverse... I am open to all interesting suggestions.

I'm from the US East coast and have been to every city from the Border of Canada to Miami, what do you have in mind to do?
