Just to check with you ...

When you say, "breakfast is included ... ", did you specifically book a package, that stated breakfast was included ??

Because, usually, it is NOT.

Brekky at SC IC is $42. EACH !!!

THAT'S why buying Club Access is worth it ( not mention the other food / drink items ).

Yeah the rate I booked was just for a IHG rate King Garden view with breakfast. So def had breakfast.

Checking my online account it looks like I have already been upgraded to a King Bed Club Marina View (so ambassador has already paid for itself!). Though from my reading this won't actually give us club access (unless people know otherwise?) so I might just ask at check in if they have any offers on a club access for 1 day or something like that to check it out.

2 weeks tomorrow till the big day!

IHG are strange with their terminology. My belief is a club room should give club access (as they have the same room without the club designation, so why not just use that if they don't intend for you to have club access). I know there has been discussion about that here on AFF and to be honest, I haven't really followed the discussion, but I have the feeling ICSC have not been accused of failing to give club access on a club room stay. I think it's fair to say that it's more promising than not. Please keep us informed as to whether or not they give you club access. It may be their honeymoon gift to you both!

This would then also upgrade me to IHG Platinum (which doesn't seem to mean too much!). Could make use of the free night either on this stay or more likely on an upcoming trip to Hong Kong. 25% off best flexible rate may come in a tad cheaper than what I am currently looking to book. And there is probably an instant $100 benefit on food and beverage with the 25% off.

Edit: Through further reading Hong Kong might not be possible?

The free night is available anywhere in the world: I used mine at the IC Budapest which was full on the day so we got an upgrade as well.

Note that most of the other benefits are available only "at participating hotels". This may be why you are "?" on Hong Kong.

Ah, ok. Yep probably should have read more closely. So it is the actual dining benefits which have no meaning in Hong Kong. Bit annoying. But signing up might pay for itself anyway with a night in Honk Kong at the rates they charge!

Correct; the room we had in BUD is listed currently at Eur338 so not a bad deal.

My suggestion is to get your money back by booking the most expensive room during your travels and then any "dining benefits" are a bonus!:D And as you note, there are no participating hotels in HKG.

Also, ring up and ask for their best deal; but don't accept their first offer.;)

So have been staying here for the past week. The upgrade in the end didn't include club access but we have bought it for our last day for $100 which was less than the cost difference between the rooms when originally booking. Should get some value out of it through the afternoon tea and drinks/canapés. Resort has been great, nice and relaxing.

Had a great dinner at the Fireplace but the resort is lacking a second standard restaurant. It has an extensive room service menu but it would be great if they had a restaurant available with this fare.

We have eaten at George's and the Thai in the marina. Thai was good but thought Georges was pretty average. Not a fan of deep fried calamari and it seemed that was the only way they did it. Also don't get the whole 'half price menu' thing when they are the prices all the time.

That's really disappointing to hear. I cannot understand how they can say you got a club room upgrade, but then don't give you club access. Isn't that just a regular room? Why say it's a club room?

Georges has always been a con with the 1/2 price bit. Ever since they first opened, my wife and I scratch our heads at how they can say 1/2 price lunch when you pay the menu price? All it has is a line on the bottom of the menu saying all prices are the 1/2 price, prices! What a shonk, honestly, but I guess he continues to pack 'em in so how can you argue? Being gyped is obviously a lot of peoples preference!

I think it is because they don't have 'King Marina View' as a room classification. So even though they upgrade you for the view in the system the only room type with that view has the term 'club' associated with it.

Having the club for the last day was great, 2 x afternoon teas and the one night of canpes and drinks for $100 was great value and we wouldn't have used it the other days when we were out and about.

Wow. Last minute decision to bolt down to the GC. Paid $ 176 inc breakfast. Upgraded to the Homestead suite. Lots of goodies. Massive suite. Very impressed as a long term Platinum Ambassador

Homestead is very nice, but what you want is the Manor or Federation Suite next time ;)

The $176 you paid, what room type was that for? I have a booking coming up soon for a Club Marina View as a Plat Ambassador.

Yes I know someone else who stayed there recently that also received paw paw ointment. Seems to be their GC gift.

They were perhaps too large in file size. The new site allows for up to 5MB images, but doesn't appear to compress/optimise them. Any uploads therefore need to be under 5MB, which is already pretty large for a forum.
