Intentionally triggering a targeted 50% bonus SC promo

@sbor90 do you think there is any relationship of the SC offers to the "We are holding flights from Sydney to Los Angeles for you until 11:59pm" emails.

Would be an easy selection to trigger the 50% SC offers to

Booking as a QFF = Yes
Have or had "Holding" emails to <current target destinations> = Yes
On QF metal = Yes
Has holding email been converted or paid into a booking = No

Yield management via marketing updates some list of sectors and then whammo at 7am, generate emails to all those going to LAX on QF flights
You don’t always get a bonus offer with the “we’re holding a flight for you” email, but I think whenever you get a bonus offer, it’s usually when you’ve gone all the way to the payment page and you are likely to also get the “we’re holding” email.
So I think one of the criteria to trigger (but not the only criteria) is to go all the way to the final step before payment.

Agree with @sxc , there may be a relationship but it's not definite. I haven't gone all the way to the payment page when triggering my own bonuses.

Hi late to this thread...

A few points:
1. I received a 50% SC offer. While browsing flights I don't usually log on to the Qantas website though I do sometimes use the app (in which case you're logged on by default.) So, to the people that have never received a 50% offer, make sure you're logged in :)
2. The travel period the offer was applicable to I suspect has nothing to do with the dates being searched but the dates Qantas are trying to fill their planes.
3. I hope this new approach to bonus SCs by Qantas does not preclude a DSC offer this year as I'm gagging for it!

I certainly didn't go all the way to the payment or even the passenger details pages when 'triggering' mine a couple of weeks' back. I just searched and built a return fare from selecting specific flights, so I could see the total price including breakdown of fare vs. taxes (as we have corporate discounts from base fare that would apply when booking through the company agent). Probably just closed the browser after that. BSC mail came along 7 days later.

Cheers,
Matt.

I so much want to trigger an offer. I have a 6 leg USA itinerary I want to book.

Each day since Saturday I have search BNE-LAX & SYD-LAX. I've had the "We are holding" emails. I notice tonight the cookies are also helping QF give me this taunting banner.

Tomorrow I willt throw in some BNE-ORD searches. Maybe marketing want to do some 50% offers to fill those aircraft.

Over the last few days I've been doing a lot of searches, mostly on 10 SC domestic legs, but a couple of SYD/WLG queries. Part of that is me travelling (and I've booked some revenue legs), and part of it is research for a conference I'm running.

So far no marketing enticements have appeared, but I'm now scared that the system will offer me an SC bonus when I have absolutely no long-haul trips in the pipeline to which the SC Bonus could be sensibly applied. That would be criminal.

Was talking to guy who works in aviation sector in bali recently and he was saying the reason why QF set the lifetime platinum bar so high at 75000, and moved to targeted DSC offers, is that there is apparently a large number of QFF members sitting on 50000+ status credits (all those former FiFo members who earned big during mining boom using DSC promos and using the quirks (and perks 😉) of the QF IT system )... Of course he could've been blowing smoke out his @55 ...but makes you wonder just how many QFF members are out there sitting on 50000+ SC...

The universe is laughing behind my back.

Got up this morning to a note from Emirates Skywards, offering "Double Tier Miles" if I book by 10 Feb, etc, etc.

Does the Emirates machine watch this thread? Maybe marketing campaigns are being offered as a codeshare?

Me too!! Wondered if they were teasing me given that I am on EK metal next month, on a mix of QF and EK flight numbers..

Well after reading this thread, I deliberately searched a few times before actually booking.
I needed a flight to Jakarta......

Yep, then the offer came. Unfortunately, it was only a 50 % bonus points offer. But better than nothing.

So interesting that I have never been to Jakarta or even looked at that route before, and suddenly an offer comes through.

Definitely something in this....In future I will look a few times before booking.

Can always hope for the DSC offer....

Do you remember how many days there were between searching and the offer arriving?

I did that last year SYD/DXB/DUB/DXB/KUL then SIN/SYD in revenue J, the bulk of which was on EK metal with QF codeshares. Not a peep of an offer of any sort, before or after. But that was the trip that got me across the line to LTG.

You'd have to infer that Mr QF Robot is artificially intelligent enough to look at my travel and see what a human would. The human would know that the outcome of a bonus would be of marginal or no commercial benefit to the airline, and the machine seems to have got it right: in December I unashamedly spent lots of household money to bridge the gap to Plat. Clever machine!

I had looked a few times over a couple of days.
Then the day before the offer arrived, I went through to the payment page, but didn’t complete the booking.
The next day the 50% points offer email arrived..
Interesting

Tempting fate. Yesterday I did a heap of searches, plus booked four segments in Oz; some as revenue and some as points. Today: nothing.

My anniversary is 28 Feb: would a cynical person think that might have something to do with it? Nah...

i think there is more to it. I have been trying this for many weeks now on a set route with no offer. In vain sadly. Maybe it also depends on year expiry date. Plus a whole lot of other stuff.
Triggering targetted offers is pure luck. Just like the $30 hotel vouchers sent after making bookings.

I’ve run quite a few searches now across several accounts (NB through to P1) with no SC bonus offer. Hopefully means a DSC for all is around the corner :)
