Int. Lounge Acess Changes from Nov. 1 2016

I didn't know SQ changed their policy on this recently. From what I could guess, with SQ, children always counted as guests (except if they were 2 years or under), though several were able to get in anyway without issue (whether or not it was in the rules).
.

SQ didn't change their policy but VA changed their's by moving VA pax to the SQ lounge instead of the NZ lounge.
The knock on effect being a reduction in published benefits for VA members with kids.

Ah right... now I'm on the trolley... :)

I had a friend ask this question (kids plus adult guest) to the SQ lounge staff in BNE yesterday and they advised that kids do count as guests.
It will end up being a YMMV thing and those with older primary school aged kids/ flying Y etc will lose out when they previously had lounge access with NZ.
What age were your friends kids? Were they flying on SQ or VA tix?

As a SYD resident who doesn't fly to APW, I must admit I'm not that annoyed by these changes... I consider the EY lounge a significant upgrade over the NZ lounge, with improved dining options and great service. But it's sure going to get a bit crowded for a small lounge?!

Unless I'm mistaken, it looks like all VA status guests flying to AUH can now use the EY lounge, whereas previously for the (EY-operated) A380 flight, Y pax with status were only allowed in the NZ lounge, ostensibly for capacity reasons. I guess that's gone out the window.

I really hope VA will stump up for the EY lounge in MEL though when they start operating MEL-LAX again. Anything else would just be madness!

Wow wee, something I can post about at last! Utilizing new Sin/Can/Wgtn connection out of Canberra recently, able to use VA lounge as Gold FF (VA). Nothing available at all to SIN or VA in Wgtn and with flight leaving at 1050 it's a long wait in dowdy, dank WGTN poop shed. Now where can I rid myself of 150,000 VA points and my Gold Status valid until Aug 2018? Any ideas?

Please, please fellow flyers, do not contribute to this thread any further. You are playing right into "Their Hands"

There is nothing that adds more laughs around "Board Room Tables" in the Airline Industry, than flyers complaining about their treatment after they enter an airport for a flight.

Let it be understood once and forever and it cannot be said any more clearly........Your rear end sitting on a seat within the "Silver Bird" is all that is important, NOTHING ELSE!
What little niceties the industry feels they need to entice you further, are now trimmed, and will in the future be further trimmed to the absolute minimum.

Don't allow yourself to be upset about what you feel you are entitled to, it's just not in the game plan now and will further be reduced in the future.

Surely any of you who have flown in USA will have noticed....The lounges there were annihilated in service many many years back. Do not fool yourselves that it isn't well on the way here.

Step out of your airport transport, walk calmly to check-in, then without any further thought you are going to be delightfully waited upon, march to the lounge you have paid highly for the pleasure of being a member and expect nothing other than some form of snack and a comfy chair.

That's it people. Don't be fooled, your forthcoming flight will be a lot more relaxed.

Now that's a bit depressing

Bad move by Virgin. Had a recent stopover in Auckland; (booked on Virgin, flying with Air NZ under a codeshare). Three hour delay in Auckland due to Air NZ, and was refused entry into the Air NZ lounge. "Sorry Sir, we don't share lounges". Even though I have a Virgin lounge membership and silver status. Pretty shabby. Don't think I'll bother renewing the lounge membership if there are no decent reciprocal right with their partners.

I'm a bit confused by this. I assume you were flying Auckland to Australia on a flight operated by either NZ or VA (and a flight number with either of those codes).

If you have a Lounge Membership, the rules say you should have access. (The fact you are Velocity Silver is irrelevant).

This has not much to do with the recent changes; this should simply be following the rules.

Just to confirm – you have separate paid lounge membership and were not trying to use the 2 free passes you receive as silver ?

Virgin Australia Lounge members must be travelling on a Trans Tasman journey with either Virgin Australia or Air New Zealand, or domestic Air New Zealand flight to access Air New Zealand lounges. Air New Zealand lounge access is not permitted when flying on Virgin Australia international short haul flights, e.g. Pacific Islands, Bali and Papua New Guinea.

Correct. Flight was Melbourne to Rarotonga via Auckland. Issue happened in Auckland.

I was flying Melbourne to Rarotonga with a connection in Auckland on a VA flight code. I have a paid lounge membership. Guy at the desk told me they don't 'share' lounge access. My reading of the lounge reciprocal arrangements since then indicates I should have been given access. This was particularly galling, because the annoying 3 hour flight delay is when you get value from your lounge membership.

Yep pretty sure we never could access NZ lounges on NZ-operated Pacific Island flights regardless of status or lounge membership.
