A child's QFF account has just under the 5K minimum to do a family transfer and the child's FF points are at risk of expiring due to the 18mth inactivity.

Can I transfer 5K to the child's account so their FF points balance will exceed 5K, and then transfer their entire balance back to an adult's account where we are regularly earning?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You could open a Woolworths reward card and link to child's QF account. Or, if you're looking to buy something soon, buy something via Qantas mall (log into child's QF account to do).

I may be wrong, however thought you couldn't extend the life of QF points by transferring?
The transferred points will stay active as long as the account they are in is active.

If you transferred the points to an account which has also been inactive for 17 months, there’ll only be one month left.

But if you transfer the points into an ongoing, active account, the points will not expire.

Ah ok @MEL_Traveller that's good to know.

I clearly totally misunderstood this!
Family transfers don’t count as ‘activity’ in and of themselves to extend the 18 month period. The incoming points assume the lifeline and expiry of any other points already in the receiving account. If the receiving account was also inactive, the points would theoretically expire immediately on being received. (although IIRC there’s a grace period of a couple of days in case this happens?)
