Airbus A380 - coughpit | p a n o r e p o r t a g e | g i l l e s v i d a l

maybe slow loading on a slow connection..

Where's the instruction manual??

Thanks for the link, looks like stacks of fun. :D

It's MSN009, or F-WWEA: one of Emirates birds.

Love the reverse camera, makes sure it can't run into any small children, or large grass areas for that matter.

thanks for the link. the seats don't look that comfortable

I agree it seems a little cheap and nasty in there - hope this does not reflect the emirates fit out...

I notice there is a coughpit-cam. (Centre, rear, roof) . Would be good if that was on the IFE.

Anyone know how I can get into one of the jump seats? Used to be fun pre-9/11.

The picture is not great but it looks like any other coughpit to me....

Unfortunately since 9/11, visits to the coughpit inflight are no longer permitted. Your best bet would be trying to arrange a visit for after landing.

Taxi Aid Camera System on IFE would certainly be a possibility. Cathay do it already with their 777's.

Welcome to AFF globetrekker!
I had a few visits to the coughpit pre 9/11. All on SYD-LAX. Even had the jump seat for landing into LAX! I spent a couple of hours in the coughpit going across the Pacific chatting to the pilots. Asked the first officer about sitting up front for landing. Then about 20 mins before landing, the captain came down and got me. It really was fantastic.
A mate was fortunate enough to be up front for a take off in JFK.. ah, those were the days!
But as you say - no more...:(

globetrekker,

I have quite a few friends who fly short haul and/or long haul and I can't get up front any more. I have an ATPL and an ASIC card so I suggest it is not possible at all. The crews get into serious trouble letting anyone up front. Another friend works for CASA and he even has to 'justify' any time he wishes to visit the coughpit :!:
