I think it’s just random but on our last trip there was staff near the smart gates checking the SSHP and tourist tax. Had ours saved on phones so was instant but could see that many were fumbling around and holding up the queues.
Had never seen them check before but I was told it was random and pretty rare

Thanks - and also the 3rd thing to do beforehand is the customs declaration as well.

So do 3 things online before the trip on 3 separate websites:

1. eVisa
2. Tourist tax
3. Customs declaration

I have three more suggestions:

1. Get an eSim for your phone for your time in Bali. Fexiroam and Airalo seem to be the most popular. Start by downloading the app from the respective app store.
   
   
2. Open a free savings account in Aus, which allows you to draw cash from an ATM in Bali fee-free, and at the most ideal exchange rate. (the Visa/MC rate). Ubank or Macquarie are good examples of that.
   
   
3. Download the myBluebird app on your phone—the most trustworthy and cheap transport in Bali. Order a Bluebird taxi upon landing in Bali, and meet the driver upstairs at the DEPARTURES area. It's much easier than trying to fight through the people trying to sell you overpriced transport at the arrivals level.

Here are a few more details for you:
For some countries/regions Flexiroam may be cheaper than Airalo or sometimes not...
Airalo is a little cheaper for Indo, $9 for 7 days.
When you use Airalo for the first time, put in the code PROMO6768, and you will save $5.

When in Bali, do not use ATMs in the convenience stores, as they may be unsafe, will charge a fee, and the rate might not be ideal. Instead, use Major Bank ATMs (except Commonwealth Bank).
BCA and Mandiri are usually the best.

No doubt, this is unlikely to be your last visit to Bali, so at the end of your holiday, make sure you draw a little cash from the ATM to bring back with you. Then you will have some as soon as you land in Bali next time.

Not sure if I have posted on this before (!).

I was in Bali (DPS) a couple of weeks ago, basically overnighting SYD to HKG/TPE (don't ask). I was returning to SYD via this routing a few days later.

So, I thought I'd be the model traveller and get all the documentation done online, including the Bali tax (all easy if you're in Oz with good comms connections). On arrival at DPS on the Qantas flight from SYD I sailed through everything and was out into the real(ish) world within minutes. No one was interested in my Bali tax payment or my health declaration.

As I was returning through DPS within a few days (another overnight stay) I decided not to do another Bali tax payment or health declaration, but I could not complete the eVisa online in Taipei as the Indonesisian Govt website just wouldn't accept my Visa card this time. So, I had to go through the manual VoA line, but this was only a couple of people deep, so was out in about 5 minutes.

Makes you wonder about the whole visa et al processing thing with Bali/Indonesia. (well really not much wondering to be done).

I read about registering your mobile phone, because otherwise you won't be able to use an Indonesian Sim with it. Do you know about that? And is it only necessary for physical Sim-Cards, or also for e-Sims?

Hello all, hope someone can help me or give me some advice.
I applied for a C1 (60 day) visa for Indonesia, and was granted one yesterday. However, as I read through it carefully, in the small print (called "disclaimer") it says, that if I stay for more than 30 days, I will get fined. I tried to ask the Chatbot - it told me that I have a 60 day visa but can only stay for 30 days. I tried to ask the official eMail, they told me how to download the visa again and talked about an itk (which I can only access as soon as I am in Indonesia), but did not answer my question whether I have a valid visa for 60 days. Does anybody know anything about similar problems?

As a regular tourist, no need to register your phone and use your existing home SIM or eSIM(s).

Apparently the “local” SIM card restriction is a max of 90 days.

Should be valid for 60 days, you will know on arrival, as for a fine that’s for those who are too lazy to do an extension in Bali which is a simple process done in person if needed

If you already have the visa (I’m guessing that’s just a longer stay VOA), when you go through the e-gates, the Indonesian system will recognise that the visa is activated and will email you. That email should have the exact (and authoritative) info on the timeframe.

Usually it comes through almost immediately, so should be whilst you’re still at the airport. If you’re concerned by that email info (ie: it tells you 30 days), ask to see the immigration officials and confirm why the difference.

Has anyone come across this? The e-mail IS entered correctly, as is the password and Capcha; on 'submit' the e-mail disappears and the error message appears. I've cleared cookies etc etc, still get the same.

Yes, I.m sure it was all thoroughly tested before release. The only answer can be user error. At least that was the answer when I was an IT Director.
