Hi,

Anybody had any experience or hints with getting a visa for India (business) in a hurry ? Seems they are quoteing 7 days and don't really want to change there mind about it. I cant get my letters required until monday night anyway but i need processing in about 4 or 5 working days.

Then the next one is Korea, they say 4 days, but i will only have about 2 days maybe 3 if i fly the night before my meeting in Japan and get there a little late ! But maybe i could enter as a tourist ??
Or could I apply in Australia and have it supplied to Japan where i will be for 2 days before i travel to Korea ?

I am an Australian citizen traveling on an Australian passport, nothing special about the trip except the lack of time i have for Visa's

Evan

2. All other Nationals can enter as trasit-traveller (except Cuba, Macedonia) without an entry visa for a stay of up to 30 days, if their purpose of visit is transit-traveller and you meet all of following requirements

  • Holding a visa or a re-entry permit of the U.S. Japan, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand (5 countries only)
  • Travelling from either of the five countries to other country via Korea using direct flight, or travelling from a other country to either of the five countries via Korea using direct flight
  • Holding a confirmed onward air-ticket to leave within 30 days
  • No Immigration offence records, while in the five countries

Actually my planned trip is MEL-NRT-ICN-MEL (Subst MEL with SYD-MEL etc if no direct possible), so really even thought i will be attending 2 days a meeting i could be a transit traveller could i not ?

Yes you can be a transit traveller.
OZ and KE fly ICN-SYD with QF a codeshare on OZ. OZ is 777 with no AVOD but PTV in Y and very comfortable 34 pitch. When I used OZ to go to Europe no visa was required, just fill in the form on the plane and line up at the desk. Oh enjoy the Kimchi and try the Bim Bam Bap on the plane:mrgreen:
India, can take all the time and pleading did not work, I missed a wedding....:(

Thanks, i will enjoy the Kimchi :)
What is Bim Bam Bap ? (Probably had it but never known the name)

Yes i noticed the nice seat pitch on seatguru when i was checking out the flights from Japan to Korea, and the QF codeshare :)

Af for India....
Well seems i may be missing my meeting ! or atleast 1 day of it, you would think that it wouldn't be that hard to get a visa for a week !
Guess i just have to plead my case next week and cross fingers !

Have you checked with one of the companies that arranges visas? I've found in the past they can sometimes expedite the process, handy if on a tight schedule.

A bit of a digression but I wish NZ would be a bit more reasonable about issuing 2nd passports (it can be done, indeed some years ago when a kiwi & aussie visited every country in 6 months they had 3 passports so as to deal with visa issues, but they are extremely reluctant to allow it).

I have my own passport shuffle coming up that may end up down to the wire due to limited time between travels in which to get visas for countries without representation in NZ (meaning not only normal time to process but has to be sent away to australia as well).

Yes i will be using our travel agent who i know uses 'Travocor' i think its called, or i can do it myself as well.

2nd passport would be nice, must see if i can do that, especially given i need so many visas this year, although China i get yearly visa's so thats no longer a problem.

Kiwi Flyer, i was quiet prepared to come to NZ for a couple of day to get my Indian visa if it could be done faster, but same time quoted from NZ as well.

Oh well i guess we find otu tuesday ! I will also have booked an itinery by then so that may help convince them i an serious and really need the visas.

Don't know about Korea but don't hold much hope for India, sorry. :(

The last time I tried (2006) I ended up giving up and cancelled my trip there; they are generally VERY slow and NOT interested in speeding up. Their Sydney consulate office is backward, they only accept cash or money order and all you are lucky to get is a handwritten receipt on a scrap of paper.

Don't even think about posting your application in, they won't even open the envelope for several days. The only (slim) hope would be to go to the consulate in person the moment the counter opens and try to reason with them in person. Not sure if offering extra cash will help, never tried that in Australia.

Can't wait till they join APEC & accept the APEC Business travel card - no visa entry, yipee!

Hi Soundguy,

Don't worry i am sure i wont really miss a trip to India ! been once before, wasn't my favorite place to visit. Or worst case is i can miss the 3 days of meetings and just make the workshop the next week :)

APEC card would be great accept i couldn't use one as i am doing work sometimes instead of just meetings or looking for business. The way i read it your only allowed to use the card when looking for new business and conduting meetings etc.

Oh well i will let everybody know how it goes next week, and see what my corp travel agents say is possible.

If i don't go to India then Korea i can easily get a visa and they also seem much more reasonable, 4 days but also more flexible from what i understand.

Indian consulate in Sydney are the WORST people and processes to have to deal with.

Given up, just going to Korea, never wanted to go to India so soon again.
Then i have no stress :)

Less work paid for points and SC though.

If there's ever even the remotest chance that you'll need to go to India in the next five years or so, its well worth getting a multiple entry visa just avoid having to deal with the consulates.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

For sure, i will be doing that ASAP, i have got China multi entry for 1 year, and i will do the same for Korea, most of the other places i travel dont have any visa issues (eg Japan/Singapore/Malaysia)

You can get an India visa within 4 days, just costs double. $150 instead of $75. My brother got one last week in Melbourne.

How did he get that? Just ask?
I'm having my application sent to our travel centre today/tomorrow...and need it in just under 2 weeks. Hopefully it comes through by then!

Cheers,
- Febs.

You have to go to the consul yourself and pay the double fee and then you have to go back and pick it up yourself. Urgent ones cannot be done thru T/A.

I need a 2-day turnaround for an Indian visa. If I pay quadruple the fee would this be possible? Is there a black market in dodgy visas?

'sfunny how the least desirable countries have the most convoluted visa requirements - as if anyone would want to overstay a trip to Mumbai!

Cheers,

Andrew
