Hi.

This is a bit of an odd one, but does anyone have a list of instructions in case of their death? Maybe some of it is included in the last will and testament (which I don't have yet), but more along the lines of getting someone to email your friends and AFF, clear out the FF accounts etc.

My next snowboarding trip will have a much higher than average chance of death so I've started on a basic document with instructions. The last thing I want is to lose the QFF and Lifemiles etc just because I've died, when my family could use them.

Any thoughts on what to include?

I have my CCs and reward accounts, hotel and FF programs, savings account and shares, various employers and a few online places to notify.

My Financial Advisor gave me a 'Letter of Wishes ' template. The best thing is to transfer those before some of them find out that you are dead.

Whether there's something in particular you own that you would like someone to have.

If you have a hiding place for some great sum of cash that no one knows about (or do we all just dream that might happen:) )

Absolutely, that's why I aim to have them just move/use the points before notifying anyone/thing that I am dead!

"Mr and Mrs Danger, I'm so sorry for your loss. Where might we send the death certificate?"

"Ummm, doc. Would you mind holding off on that for a few days?"

Yep! We've talked about it and in addition to a will, he has a letter that starts with, "My darling husband, if you are reading this, I have died...."

Then I go into specific instructions on how he is NOT to spend money on a stupid coffin and to get the cheapest thing possible and a private cremation and then take me somewhere warm and dump me. North Sulawesi is acceptable :).

Reason being, when the funeral home starts giving him the hard sell - hes to pull out the letter and say my wife says she will haunt me if I buy that expensive coffin and she will cough if I spend the money on a stupid coffin and not a diving trip somewhere warm.

His mail order bride is not to have my Tupperware.

For money, points, hidden cash etc - all the info is in the safe.

We did the will thing about 18mths ago, it was a fight because hubby didn't want a bar of it but its unfair to leave that mess behind for others to deal with.

Edit: *cough* Im a bit more concerned if we die together and the younger generation have to empty our draws... specifically bed side table draw.... *blush*. They might need their inheritance for therapy.

On the basis of having been caught "in flagrante delicto" by each of my three ferals on more than one occasion (one feral's reaction to which was "geez, so how long until breakfast then?") my lads will just think/say "that figures!"

Interesting to hold a quick poll amongst our friends (mid to late 60s) and find an astonishing number have not revisited their wills (or more amazingly don't have one!) The other thing to consider is a current medical power of attorney and also the passwords and pin numbers for banking etc....including the FF account!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Oh, and don't forget your super fund beneficiaries.

And clearing out your google history :)

Timely thread. Given my recent penchant for jumping off stuff, and my upcoming skydiving course, I need to revisit my will and potentially write a letter of wishes. Who usually stores a letter of wishes, if you don't have a lawyer? Is there a template online?

Yes, that's my question too. I'd hate to see my hard work of points accumulation wiped, but I'm concerned about how to list logins and passwords securely on soft and/or hard copy.

My grandparents apparently had $10K hidden under the floorboards in the kitchen. Of course no one remembered until long after the house was sold :(

My LoW came already filled in by the financial guru otherwise I'd share it with you. Having just had an elderly close person pass away, we found the info in his LoW very helpful in a stressful time. It is non binding unlike a Will, but covers all other info.
