I’ve spent a bit of time thinking about this post, what I’m going to say, the tone etc. But then I realised that what I'm about to announce isn't actually that important to anyone other than myself, so I'll keep it brief and tell it as it is.
After 24 years, I’m finally hanging up my AFF hat! As many of you would know I started AFF as pretty much a hobby website in 1998. I never dreamed it would morph into the AFF we know today with it's vibrant community, insightful editorial articles, and professional services (via our sister website, Frequent Flyer Solutions).
But it's now time to hand over the keys (actually the passwords!) to an organisation who I genuinely believe will not only continue the very proud AFF tradition we have all created, but have the resources, dedication and commitment to take AFF to the next level.
So…
Earlier today (1 September 2022), Point Hacks acquired the Australian Frequent Flyer and Frequent Flyer Solutions!
There is probably no need to me to introduce you to Point Hacks, as I've no doubt that our readers are well acquainted with Point Hacks and the great work they do. You probably won’t be noticing any difference as I believe Point Hacks will keep things pretty much the same. Importantly, our fantastic Moderation Team stays intact, Matt will continue his role as AFF Editor producing world-class content, and Sam will continue providing behind-the-scene administration and member support. I’ll be around too handing over the reins to Point Hacks over the coming months.
And now for the most important part of this message. There are two groups of people who I need to thank publicly. The first, of course is you all. Without your contribution and support there would simply be no AFF. Thank you all. And even more important is our truly outstanding moderators - some of whom have been moderating AFF for 16 years! And remember all our moderators are volunteers, donating their time to ensure that our community forums are the friendly, informative, and welcoming place we all appreciate. A HUGE thank you to Bill, Fiona, Jess, Lindsay, Neil, and Ross for your tireless and dedicated work over many years. I'm eternally grateful for your support and loyalty over the years.
And as for me.. As I said, I'll be handing over to Point Hacks over the next few months – so you will see me online (possibly on a different handle to "admin"). Thereafter, I won't have any leadership role in AFF, but will certainly be contributing to AFF as an ordinary member and will continue to attend social gatherings etc. AFF has been such an integral part of my life for so long, there is absolutely no way I can simply walk away into the sunset!
Good Bye as "admin". Travel well, stay healthy, and thank you all for your support over the years.
