Hi
A colleague is relocating to MAN in the UK. He is flying SYD(QF)-xx_(QF)-LHR(BA)-MAN. I assume he will arrive into T3 and then have to clear immigration, go to flight connections and transfer to T5 (bags I guess will be checked through).
Would these be safe assumptions?
I have never flown domestically in the UK so have never had to do this.
I have also suggested considering the train (for a variety of reasons).
Cheers in advance for any advise.

Haven't done this for a while, but I believe you are correct. You clear immigration at T3 and then do the transfer bus to T5.

Remind him to ensure he has all available paperwork in his carry on - I nearly ran into problems because some of my paperwork was in checked luggage (which is after immigration).

I travelled this same route back in January this year and absolutely no problem at all.
Arrived Heathrow T3 at 5.25am off QF9, cleared immigration, caught the transfer bus to T5 and although clearing security looked a bit daunting due to the sheer amount of people queuing the lines moved very quickly and I was airside with plenty of time to go to the BA lounge for multiple hot bacon rolls with coffee before boarding QF3537 (BA operated) to Manchester at 7.45am.

Bags should be checked through, and will need to be collected in MAN in a "International" baggage area. Not sure where it is in MAN, but should be very close to the normal bag belts.

We did this in October last year. PER-SIN-LHR-MAN. We got off in terminal 3, caught bus to Terminal 5, we had to line up for issue of new (Terminal 5 compatible) boarding passes. From there it was through immigration (1 hour wait), then through to security (15 minute wait), then to LHR-MAN flight. We picked our baggage up from the same carousel as everyone else in MAN. There were a couple of customs guys standing there at the customs counter where there was a sign saying items to declare. We had nothing to declare so walked straight out.

In Feb I did MCO-LGW-MAN on BA. Again bags came out on same carousel as everyone else,
