I'm in the QF Lounge thread

no wonder the lounges are up the proverbial with members guesting strangers who have no right to be in there in the first place. If you are travelling with friends or family sure that's why we have that privilege, but just advertising here to any member of the public I don't get it, are you people big noting yourselves or what.

Not like that at all. I have got many really useful tips from this forum over the last few years. I've been to a few social events but still keen on putting together names with faces and this is just another way of doing just that. These lounge meets are like old friends catching up; the only risk is missing the plane because you are too busy chatting. It is not "advertising to their public."

It is not about advertising for lounge guests it is more so about meeting up with other AFF members and yes sometimes extending an invite to a Gold or Silver Frequent flyer who contributes to the forum and has good ideas and or has made interesting points in order to have a good conversation.

No Big Noting at all just being friendly that's all.

thomno50 so are you saying that if we discovered that we are both on the same flight and have found common interest through postings on this forum and I was too invite you into the First lounge as a guest you would refuse?

Not big noting, just being a nice AFF'er when I offer to guest. Or a nice human being.......Equally, I am grateful when others can guest me into superior lounges, its a treat. Things like guesting can make a tough world really nice for someone, you never kniw what an act of kindness can mean to someone.

QF WP first guested me into a lounge in 2005.

Ever since I have got status in my own right I have wanted to help people get into lounges. Is there a huge difference if the person in 4E is a family member or a friend you just guested into the lounge? Have made a number of friends that way.

People are guesting AFF'ers on this thread and not random publics. If people guest strangers they meet at the airport I really don't think that is why the lounges are busy.

HUH? whats this got to do with it

I would think the numbers being guested in are rather small in the whole scheme of things. I guested someone I met on my international flight to SYD into the SYDd lounge as we both had onward domestic connections. We chatted and then both went on our merry way. I enjoyed the company.

I make a point of advertising the flights I am on in order to guest someone if possible, and I will continue to do so. Not big noting, just being friendly.

I was guested into the MEL F lounge when I was a lowly PS. It gave me enough motivation to make my way to WP, so it was a great opportunity for QF to advertise the benefits of higher status.

And one day, when I no longer have access in my own right, I hope someone may guest me.

Tone down the bolded oversize fonts thanks guys

There is no way I would guest anyone I didn't know when travelling internationally. I find it amazing that anyone would. Having no idea what their character is or what they are carrying would be too much of a risk for me.

But you are not responsible for their behaviour and they have been security screened so you run no more risk than getting on the same plane with a whole bunch of other randoms.

That would depend entirely on the circumstance to me. But I see no reason why not. It's not like I would carry a suspicious package for a stranger. But to guest someone into a lounge is just a small courtesy.

As with the others, I've been guested before, and I have guested a couple times, and hope to be able to keep paying it forward to speak.

It's not like we're advertising guest spots in the local paper, only here among like minded AFFers. You would be surprised how many knowledgeable people you can meet and share all kinds of tips that can't be advertised online.

I'm doing most of my travel solo for business and it can get boring so I'm happy to meet new people and guest them into airline lounges and even hotel lounges sometimes. It's all part of being friendly and so far I've met only nice people from AFF.

I must confess. I had some double choc kapiti ice cream too. Decided to eat in lounge instead of on the plane. Turns out it was a good decision.

Yep. That's what it is. Unashamed big noting.
If I stood downstairs with a placard trawling for strangers I would agree with you. This site is not just for information. It is also "Fraternal". That means friendships develop. Sharing the experience is part of the friendship process. But if making friends with someone you have yet to meet bothers you, then you could always leave here and keep your lounge access to yourself.

That's my point. Trawling here is the same as what you just described, but instead you are using this website. Fraternity? lol Catching a plane is more or less like catching public transport these days.

I don't understand the poor character argument. Qantas clearly aren't doing characters check when they sell J/F tickets or QP memberships, nor banks when they dish out QP passes. The latter also seem to be readily available for purchase on Gumtree/eBay at $50 a pop. Hardly going to discourage someone of 'poor character' getting access to a lounge if they really wanted to, especially if they can make it past security...

I guested someone from AFF into a Dom J lounge, had a great chat (as mentioned by another poster, solo travel is lonely enough) and won a new client to boot. Good result all around I think.
