I'm feeling a bit sad ...[My SC's are getting wiped today... =( ]

they're all gone..... all of them...... gone...... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I keep reading the thread heading and thinking Grumpy for today.

anyone want a hit on Patner gold? i'm sitting about 120 short and don't think its worth continuing self funding towards my dog being SG... :p
Wipe wipe wipe at the end of oct.

I hear Qantas are pretty good about who can be your partner; certainly the dog wouldn't appreciate it. :D

Whats with all the August anniversaries, did you all decide to become QFF at a Xmas party

Haha; I joined Qantas frequent flyer before AFF came along.

When you have way too much time and money at your disposal. :p

Some (most) of us struggle to get top status in one alliance let alone think about achieving status in another alliance. Assuming one achieves LTG wouldn't it still be worthwhile to strive for Platinum as there is a big difference between Gold and Platinum in terms of possible benefits?

Totally agree; Qantas Platinum is the only thing I am interested in.

My year end was 31 July, went from 1425 to 0, but back to 225 already.

The world has returned to normal. I got dropped back to (Lifetime) Gold over the weekend after 10+ years as WP. Still no correspondence from Qantas though and no new card. I wonder how long that will take?

My year end was 31 July, but I can't match the 225 SC's. :(

Another year of struggle in economy to try and retain WP. It is worth it though.

Part of that 225 was with a JASA (Business Any Seat Award) from Brisbane to Hobart via Sydney 100SCs in 4 hours not bad at all. :D

Also if you can get yourself to the US then there are some nice F class runs to Florida for not too many dollars, but a bucket load of SCs.

What is worth it? The struggle in economy or Platinum status?

The platinum status is worth it. The use of the first lounges, particularly the restaurants, First Class International check in, and being treated like a human being on long haul international flights in economy make travel that little bit more bearable.

Like you, I'm a bit over it, but it is a major requirement of my job, and anything that makes it a little easier is worth it.

Don't get me wrong the Platinum status has been a great asset commuting for the last couple of years. It has been a rough ride and I would hate to think what it would have been like without it....

My SC's are getting wiped today... =(

If you got that many and weren’t given CL… I’m officially giving up on ever trying… :p

High SC's doesn't equal CL.

I know of a CL member who was bronze when it was bestowed on them.

Equally I know of people who pull in 7000+ SC's who aren't CL :)

It's about your 'real world' status, value and importance, through QF's eyes.

I know, but you’d think if you’ve achieved PG and you’re spending a lot on QF (no one said those above were all on QF) and you’re in the many thousand of SC’s, double, triple, quadruple platinum, you’d want to be striving for another goal, or you might just take your business elsewhere.

there’s always been talk of how much you’d have to spend or how many SC’s you’d have to earn to be bestowed CL… but if it’s really as bad as this, and lets face it, they aren’t that great, I don’t understand why people bother. They don’t deserve the income if they don’t care.

Rant over though, was just making a point that 5000SC’s is a lot, and for that you’d expect it. Maybe not you… but if you don’t, is that a low expectation of them, or?

what puzzles me about the 5000+ sc's is that if you changed all my flights last year that were economy to business I still would be very far away from total...

If i changed all the flights to First Class (though that doesn't exist for domestic flights) I still wouldn't get there... so how the hell does one get 5000+ sc's?

It's not that much depending on what you do and what travel class you fly in. My housemate (also WP) will hit it, simply by flying CBR-SYD-CBR or CBR-MEL-CBR once or twice a week in J.

I know a person who did > 250 flights in 2009, and crazy stuff like taking an overnight flight to Hong Kong, doing a days worth of meetings and then flying back the next night.

As for me, I'll be proud of my ~2,000 SCs which expire on Oct 31 :)

Sorry, your last two paragraphs aren't very coherent.

By 'they' do you mean Qantas? What is 'really as bad as this' ?

Why would you expect it (CL I assume you are referring to) at 5000 SC's? QF are pretty clear it's invite only at their discretion.

I do agree people earning multiple WP might seek something else but they would be few and far between I imagine.

There are several unpublished and discretionary benefits of high high WP's.... Ones I know of include tickets to events and when QF launched a new wine in F, they sent out a bottle as a gift. Not sure of the algorithm or frequency of this stuff though.

Sorry, I’m tired, have a headache and on my way to bed… "they" was QF and "being as bad as this" meaning that PG is the end of the line even for those flying and earning far more than it.

But anyway, invite only is good I guess, but seems useless when they give it to people that don’t fly enough, but the people that do mightn’t get it because they’re not famous… you know.

We;re off topic. Sorry.
