Hi there

Booked via the Qantas website a jetflex Jetstar ticker to Sydney and a Full Flex return to melbourne. I want to change the return leg to next day and can't do so via net due to outbound JQ leg. Woman on the phone wants to charge me $40 to change a full flex tocket tp next day - does this sound right??

I'm confused

Jason

$40 is the listed price for an agent to perform the change (in addition to any fare difference).

Are you accessing your booking from the QF site or the JQ one? If QF and you aren't able to change dates I would call back and ask them to waive the agent fee...

  • Hi there - I booked and am trying to access the QF site. I thought fully flex meant no fees - only $40 however principle!

Unfortunately, Jetstar don't have "fully Flex" - AT ALL!

For example, it costs $50 to cancel a JQ "Fully Flex" booking, even in StarClass.

Aside from that, both Qantas and Jetstar charge a "service fee" for calling to alter bookings.

This is all in the the T&C's you agree to before booking online.

As an aside; Personally, unless I had to have flights in the one booking, I would NEVER book a JQ flight using the Qantas portal.

I agree with serfty-not a good idea to book a JQ flight through QF.You wont be able to change on line hence have to ring and therefore the fee,QF cant access the best JQ prices, cant OLCI for your JQ sector so a whole lot of negatives.

Agreed, I've been burned by JQ bookings from the QF website. Seemed like a good idea at the time, terrible idea in practice. :S

+2, my yearly JQ flight normally gets booked as part of a QF multicity by my PA despite strict instructions, and you get treated like a second class citizen in terms of changes/OLCI compared to using the JQ website.

What fare class is the JetFlex? There are two classes available, V and Y. V being the cheaper one.
If only Y is available and you have a V, you'd be paying the fare difference.

Found them ... Fare Information | Jetstar

JetFlex Changes said:
Changes permitted until flight closes for check-in (see below). No change fees apply. You must pay any fare difference to rebook*~~
...

~~ ~~ Fare difference means the difference between the original fare you booked, and the fare that is available on the day of change. The fare difference may be substantial.

Fee Type
Change fee - (via Jetstar.com)
Australian and New Zealand Domestic
$40 AUD/NZD*
Since a change fee where applicable is $40, I am thinking the operator was confused and offered to charge the $40 change fee even though none may have applicable.

i hope no one laughs too hard at this qn but, seriously, what happens if you want to change to a date that happens to be CHEAPER (by about $200) than the one you've got ... do you get any credit/refund for the difference (eg, $150 (it's international long-haul, so $50 change fee)) ?!?!

Fares that permit changes usally stipulate that the fare value can be used towards the value of an equal or higher priced fare. So in most cases the only option for changing to a cheaper fare is to cancel and purchase the new fares. But be aware that cancellation fees are often higher than change fees. Also note that it can take many weeks or even months to have the refund processed following a cancellation.
