I'll fail to retain SG status - what happens? Soft landing?

I'm currently QF SG and while I will be doing a lot of flying over the next membership year, it won't generate enough SCs to maintain my status. By the end of my membership year I'll probably have only around 300 SCs and have flown only two QF-coded sectors.

What will happen? Will I just receive a 'soft landing' down to Silver?

Or because I will only have flown 2 QF sectors (i.e. not four) should I expect to crash all the way down to Bronze?

Hoping experienced AFF-ers can shed some light on this. In case it's relevant, I was (kind of) comped to get to Gold this year - I was about ten SCs short and they let it slide...

In theory the soft landing allows drop to Silver but recently Qantas has been enforcing the 4 sector rule so I would expect drop to Bronze.

is there a link to this somewhere? I know QF has always enforced the 4-sector rule to reach or maintain status, but soft landings were issued regardless of any sectors flown. Wondering if this has changed?

AFAIK the soft landing itself was always an undocumented feature of the program, so there's unlikely to be any official record of a change like that.

Not official as far as I am aware.

Reports on AFF and Flyertalk that people without 4 sectors were not afforded soft landing.

And given you were comped last year it is very unlikely you receive another one.

Yeah, that's what I thought. So now I'm trying to work out whether it's worth doing a quick run just for the sectors (and whatever paltry SCs I can scrabble) in order to 'retain' at least silver. Falling back to Bronze does not appeal :(

I know people were speculating (or rather assuming) that lack of 4 sectors would not allow a soft landing... but I have yet to hear anyone not receive one.

I was maintained at Silver last year ( SEP14) with 90sc and all those SC were earned on other OW airlines , did not travel on any QF flights

I remember the speculation. I thought I had read recent reports. Apologies if that's not the case.

Is there any value in me simply asking Qantas what the likely outcome will be?

Can always pay for membership, depending on your situation it might be tax deductable.

Phone call can't hurt but you'll probably receive the same advice others have stated in this thread.

I wouldn't think so. Unless you were going to change your travel plans to complete more flights to get to silver (in which case you might as well put the money you were going to spend on flights towards a QF club membership, which will get you more benefits than silver alone)

FlexY PER - SYD, then F SYD - AKL, JQ within NZ with Plus Bundle, F AKL - MEL, FlexY MEL - PER? F on EK with a QF flight coding.
Not cheap but should get you a bit over 300SCs.

Sorry for the slight necrobump - didn't want to create a new thread with ostensibly the same facts just to check if the rules have changed.

Currently WP and on a 2 year stint in LON - haven't been home so no QF/JQ sectors this membership year. Will be about 650SCs at end of membership year. Are they busting those without 4 QF/JQ sectors down to bronze or have I got half a chance of only dropping to Gold?

Thanks Matt.

My year ends 30 November - so my trip home at Christmas has 2 QF sectors on it and I've booked myself a same plane turn to Tamworth (cheapest/easiest option) one afternoon to get myself the extra 2 sectors for next year.

I can confirm that when I lost SG status, as per the title of this thread, I was dropped to Silver, not Bronze.
