I'll do whatever it takes to avoid Emirates Economy on the 773.

This x a million IMO :D
Have just completed a return trip in EK A380 Y SYD-AKL. Both Shrek and I agreed it was just tolerable for a short flight but no way either of us would travel medium or long haul sitting 10 across.
Personally I'd rather stay home.

But that's standard on the A380, and Qantas is the same, as are all airlines.

please re-read what I just said!
I may be missing something, but 10 across on a 380 is not the same as 10 across on a 777. For all I know only EK is interested in a 11 seats across A380.

Here is AC 772 with 9 seats abreast (18.5 inches wide): http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Air_Canada/Air_Canada_Boeing_777-200.php
Here is EK 772 with 10 seats abreast (17 inches wide): http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Emirates_Airlines/Emirates_Airlines_Boeing_777-200_2class.php

This 1.5" makes a big difference.

No I'm saying I would refuse to fly anything other than a short flight in Y

I know what you mean, I have 5 hours flight with BA Y later this year booked on special fare but I'm starting to regret it already. Would pay the upgrade fee to PE if it wasn't nearly as bad...

I did laugh when I tried to gaze at the twilight stars......only to be distracted by all the in seat idiot boxes/people watching movies.

I then cried a little when I counted ten across.

I will happily continue taking the ten across service ex Singapore to BNE if it means I get to sleep in my own bed that night and have a decent day the next day.

I do wish someone would provide the same schedule to MEL. There's 5 overnight flights on 4 carriers, 6/5 when Scoot comes on board.

Probably something most Middle-East carriers have in common, not only Emirates.

Not QR's 777. It's 9 across. Their 787 however is also the same which is not so good.. EK A380 Y is surprisingly comfortable.. take that over the 777 any day if in Y

I did hallucinate for about 10 seconds while staring at the stars but like you when I looked into the cabin all I could see was bright screens everywhere :)

I actually forgot EK had 10 across in Y. Flying with SQ a lot having 9 across or 2-5-2 on MH comes standard too me until that feeling when you step onboard and see 10

I tried to classify the MEL - SIN on EK as shorthaul :( didn't work, couldn't persuade myself and told myself I wouldn't be in EK Y for quite a while

I can't even classify MEL-PER as short-haul

I can think of a few LCCs that would be interested in 12 across but 2-3 high in a bunk type formation.

If you build it they will come....

It happens though, whenever in on the VA 330 I somehow manage to think we're off to SIN or so until it hits that we're heading to PER :-|

Air Asia X and Cebu come to mind LOL

I have spent many hours imagining building Japanese style cubical sleep areas in the cabin. Heck, after once being shown the crew sleep area - I would be happy to pay for one of those bunks.
