Hello brain trust,
Apparently (sms notification) the upcoming QF2 SIN SYD has IFE broken in Y (and I imagine other canbins) Is there some ground for some sort of compensations, points or cash? What to expect, how to proceed?
Thanks!

Seen this a few times.. often it's a warning to download other apps, but it ends up the engineers get it working.

If it's not working id expect an offering of points

Who do you contact please regarding failed IFE? PER-MEL the other week. Not working..in fact the A330 was really not working....delayed two hours including everyone off ..everyone on scenario. 🙄. Just rubbish flight all in first thing in the morning. Resulted in missed connection to AKL and around 6 hours at MEL after re booking. Thanks QF, again!! 😕

IFE was not working. CSM announced we would get an email with some compensations.
To my surprise, 2 days later, I received an email: "appologises, plus will send 10k points..." I checked and those points landed.

This is a massive surprise, I was expecting to have to make 10 calls to get 5k. Kudo to Qantas, and I the CSM for doing the right thing. Is Qantas actually trying to improve? Time will tell.

Oh, and I didn't have to do a sing song, the three babies in my area did a great job. I should have picked a few more rows away from the bulkhead. Lesson learned.

Sorry, I still think it's a poor offering..although I guess better than nothing. . That's a long flight. After all putting it into perspective, cancel a points only flight with QF and they deduct 6k points or something for the privilege. 10k can hardly get you a single flight in Australia.

Yea, to be fair, I am mostly surprised that the CSM announced they would be compensation, and 2 days later an email plus some points landed automatically. No phone call to some untrained call center, no webform that get lost somewhere in a queue that no-one process.
Oh and to be clear, it's only the SIN-SYD QF2 leg. How many points would you say is fair?

20k

Had a broken IFE on QF2 last year, reported to the flight attendant and was told maintenance will look into it during the stopover in SIN. When I returned for the next leg it was still broken, nothing has changed 😡
Wrote a complaint but never even received a reply, let alone compensation!

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

It has been a year, I doubt they'll do anything about it now.
Might not be worth the struggle

Just as a data point. BME to PER, 2.5 hour sector. Issues connecting to the inflight wifi for entertainment. Impacted both myself and MrsDaver6. We were on different bookings so each submitted a complaint online. As a WP, I received 2k points and as a SG she received 5k points.

Go figure how that works. Anyway, was easy and quick to do with the forms online and resolved within hours. We both stated that compensation was in order given an advertised benefit wasn't delivered.

I've also had advanced notice that the IFE may not be working on my QF40 CGK-MEL flight tomorrow. Here's hoping for compensation without the need for emails. (Well, here's hoping it's a false alarm! And then if it's not that there's compo without hassle.)

Would be an interesting statistic to see how many people use IFE nowadays.

On my last 6 international flights to Eurooe and the Americas (mainly overnights) the only thing I have used is the flight map. IIRC I think 2 flights I didn't turn it on at all.

Certainly used the WiFi, read some emails, played some card game challenges on my phone, ate, slept.

I always use the flight maps when they are available. IFE content depends on what is on that flight. I'll look at what the system has, then either watch something, sleep or dig out my tablet.

When walking back from toilets to seat, I’d estimate that at least 2/3 of passengers are using the IFE during flights in daylight hours. Overnight, probably drops to 1/3 or so. Although perhaps less on carriers with meagre content.

I don’t own nor need a tablet and a phone screen is a poor substitute. Good quality IFE on long haul is one aspect that separates full service from LCC.

These are my observations too with IFE use. Had an issue recently which needed rebooting for everyone but they eventually fixed it. I wasn’t using the IFE myself but the other two-thirds would have been annoyed not to get it back online.
