An interesting thread has pop-ed up on the QFF board ......but the question would be very well place here also.

If QF offered a status match deal would you jump ship or at least give QF more of your fly dollars ?

For me I retain VA WP easily and have got companion gold for Mrs clivem and that suits us fine ..... the only thing left is companion plat

Now I'm lucky in that I'm free to choose who I fly with and I would defiantly give QF some more coin if there was a status match on - For one I'm doing a lot of BNE / DRW / BNE trips and the VA timetable on that route sucks.

Interested to see what other Velocity people at gold / plat level think.

Cheers and thanks for the invaluable information / laughs etc. you have all provided throughout 2013

If I were able to get Qantas Platinum I would likely redirect travel to Qantas, particular MEL-SYD-BNE traffic where I would have access to the business lounges.

No. For domestic travel, I'm not going to make it easier for Alan Joyce to meet his arbitrary 65% domestic market share line in the sand.

I'd take the match of course (I'm QF SG currently, but I'll lose that next October). But if I had to choose just one of the other it's VA all-the-way. I was treated far better as a VA SG than I've ever been as a QF SG.

I wouldn't. My flying patterns allow me to scrape in WP on VA via family pooling - on QF I'd barely get silver most years and would spend significantly more doing it. Plus being based in SYD the thought of giving up premium entry is terrifying :p.

Having said that, I will freely acknowledge that QF is superior to VA in a lot of ways, especially internationally - but not enough for me, personally, to justify the fare difference.

Additionally, I'm an employee of the Australian branch of a foreign company. Mr Joyce's vocal dislike for foreign-owned companies leaves me feeling he wouldn't want my money anyway.

I'd think about it -- but the reality is that while I can comfortably maintain VA Platinum, the very best I'd be able to maintain with QF would be Gold (and even that would be a stretch). Obviously I could keep QF Platinum fairly easily with runs on AA, but I'd rather avoid doing that sort of thing.

VA gets me where I need to go, I like flying with them and with some of their partners (VS, EY and DL in particular) and I feel reasonably well looked after as a Platinum member. No real need to look for greener pastures from where I sit.

If QF offered a WP match I would be first in line and then plan an immediate .br SIN trip so I could sample the F Lounges. Apart from trying out the dom J lounges I wouldn't fly them much domestically.

It is for this reason they will never offer VA status matches!

I guess I'm the wrong person to be answering this question, but if I was not QF WP I would consider it.

I'm definitely the wrong person....however I would certainly be interested if I had a fair bit of international travel booked, I think that is where the real benefits lie.

I would jump at it, simply because VA does not the get the best from its alliance partners and with a fair bit of international travel I think QF will make good option.

In saying that, if SQ was to allow better lounge access to VA WP there is no reason I would take the QF offer.

I would "dabble" as well - but my own travel patterns wouldn't be sufficient to keep me at QF Gold unless QF prices become more realistic, my routes stopped being JQ ized and I had more free time to clock up some fast/cheap SCs (not having family pooling in QFF makes it a bit tougher for family people like me to obtain QF status).

Like many of us, I keep both QF and VA WP.

I'm torn to be honest. Domestically, VA have QF beat on the MEL/SYD-PER flights (with a caveat you don't end up on a 737 or the old XFA/B birds). Especially in J, although I still feel the 737 J VA product/seat is nicer than the QF offering on trans-con.

For anything else, i'd rather fly QF (I can cope with MEL-SYD on VA in Y, it's fine for a short commute).

International, I'm sticking with VA for Premium Economy I think. It falls within works travel guidelines, and is very affordable originated from other locations.

QF WP seems to offer a better value proposition than VA's for international as stated. I keep both as I fly around the USA a lot, and I'd rather fly AA than DL (VX are ok, but I still find them a little bit too much like the DJ of yesteryear).

When QF launch their new 330 J seats i'll re-consider (but the 4 x free VA WP upgrades to J from a flexi are keeping me there as I always cash them in MEL-PER and vv).

tldr; depends on where you're based and where you fly.

Sure I'd take up the offer, but notionally the 'experience' is better with Virgin domestically. Internationally I'm each way, just depends on the connections and final destination as to who I fly with.

Plus, all my points go to Virgin from the CC so maximising flights with Virgin also helps maintain the FF miles.

Yes sure - but with sign on bonuses some people change credit cards as regularly as underwear, so where you collect & direct your Credit Card point harvesting can always be changed/adjusted or indeed split between VFF and QFF if you are that way inclined....

After quite a few years on Virgin (and very happy to be there), I'd dip my toes back into the QANTAS pond and see how they're shaping up.

I would take it up , whether I could maintain it , i doubt it . As Im currently a self funded flyer , I find it much easier to maintain Gold with VA than with QF . I would love to get back on the QF A380's internationally , but in saying that I have grown an attachment to the VAi service across to LAX , where most of my international travel has been over the last 3 years. Even in Y on my last trip , I managed shadows both ways and a few "extras" from the CS. Recognition on VA/VAi as a Gold is much better than I ever had when i was QF Gold.

I am not the right person to answer the question either but I would consider the status match offer.

Having a foot in both camps I would have to say Qantas status offers a lot more.
